It's the first race of the season and the biggest one, Why try and cheat on this race it is so closely watched.

Are these drivers so worried about losing that they will cheat there way to the cup. I just don't get it some times.

The "win at all costs" mentality strikes again. :jameo: NASCAR is big $$$ and if they think they can get away with it, they'll try it. :ohwell:

That long ago?

The rules clearly outline what is and isn't acceptable. The Jeff Gordon team is well aware of the rules and still wound up with illegal specs on their car. He pays his crew big $$$ to make sure everything is up to specs. It just was an "oversight" on their part.

A misaligned shock bracket due to a loose bolt. It was an oversight, not cheating.
Ya'know they dropped the hammer bigtime on Scott Riggs and Elliott Sadler, taking points and suspending crew chiefs for what they called "unintentional."

I was looking forward to NASCAR using the disqualification. :yay:

I just knew NASCAR wouldn't crack the whip on Gordon - NASCAR.com says no points. Remember Jimmie Johnson one year ago?

This is getting old, fast. Oversight, cheating. Call it what you want. They crack the whip on teams like Waltrip and Evernham but when it's Hendrick, things are totally different. Their message isn't being recieved when they cut down on other teams but have an inconsistency with Hendrick.

Message: Don't cheat or overlook anything unless you drive for Rick Hendrick.

Im not totally clear on what the violation was, but apparently it was something that malfunctioned during the race. I think it will be interesting to see how the rest of the racing community will respond to Nascar lack of punishment.

Almost an inch too low??? Why wasn't this caught during pre-race inspection?

It must not have been there during pre race inspection...Sounds like it happened during the race...Part failure....BUT...If it was intentional, they should be fined and treated just like the others...I'm sure there will be lots of questions..
It says here ;
"NASCAR inspectors said Gordon's No. 24 Monte Carlo was almost an inch too low, but blamed it on a part failure - not cheating. He was not stripped of the victory.
"We feel it was unintentional, and actually fairly unsafe," said NASCAR competition director Robin Pemberton. "We feel that it was a part failure... I think it would be marginal at best if there was any advantage."

Holy smoke! I have NEVER seen a racing orgnization rule book that was clear or that covered every possible modification. My friends and I used to have a BLAST finding and exploiting loopholes :lmao:

I read that last night and agree with NASCAR's decision. Totally unpreventable and unintentional.

I was looking forward to him and Tony starting side by side. Would have made for some great racing. :yay:

If you read the attached article it states that it was most likely an error on the part of a mechanic which probably occurred when the shocks were installed before the race. Any advantage to Gordon was marginal at best. Robin Pemberton believes that it was "100% unintentional." Gordon said his punishment would be whatever NASCAR gave him, which turned out to be starting 42nd on Sunday.

NASCAR also said Elliott Sadler and Scott Riggs' infractions were unintentional. Why a harsher penalty for them?

And one inch doesn't give you an advantage at Daytona

I was told one time that if I had 1 more inch, I'd be a King....She also told me that if I had 1 inch less, I'd be a Queen....
