Breast feeding In public

I breastfed my son. And I fed him wherever I was. BUT I also made sure that I had a lightweight blanket so there was some "privacy" and nothing was ever seen. I don't feel it is so much about being modest..because I am not modest. It is about class in my opinion. And unless you live in the jungle with everything hanging out, COVER THAT CHIT UP

The only use for a female breast is to feed her infant. So why the big deal if women are using the breast for the intended purpose?

I breastfed all 3 of mine. Did I do it in public? Yes. But it doesn't mean I ripped my shirt off and exposed my breasts to the public. I am modest and used a cover. Does that mean every woman that doesn't use a cover wants everyone starring at her? No, I don't think so. And my opinion is, while you are activily breast feeding your infant, the only exposed skin is the top of the female breast. I see more boob from teenagers and women walking around with their "shirts" on then I do from a woman feeding her infant with her breast. That's my opinion.

The worst experience I ever had was when people would come up to me and pull down the cover to "see the baby" while I was nursing. And yes, this happened more than once. THAT is rude, not me nursing my infant in public.

I never did that because I was nursing my newborn in my arms, however they did get the "What the F8ck are you doing" . Oh, I just wanted to see your baby........ yeah, right.

People actually did that?!

And I'm with you on not thinking it's a big deal, I just don't get the need for all the demonstrations. If they didn't want everyone starring at them they wouldn't be making it such a big deal.

It did happen. On more than one occassion. A few times it was by kids, so I don't blame them. The adults that did it......... :smack: Rude

I don't think it's so much they want everyone starring at them, so much as they don't need everyone making such a sink over it every single time a mom nurses her baby. Grow the F up people. God gave us boobs to nurse our young. If we're using them for that purpose, it shouldn't be a big deal. If we're flashing your husband on the corner with them, then say something. Geeze. It's natural. Get your panties out of a bunch. Baseball players grab their crotch every 2 minutes on live TV, I don't see breastfeeding moms making that a crime.

But seriously, breast feeding should be a serene & calming time for both mother & baby. Some of the shenanigans of these woman are anything but. I hope they stay calm & Zen so it doesn't transfer to their child.

I always wonder about this! How do you feed your poor kid while you're running around airport terminals and restaurants screaming you have the right to feed your kid? That's far from the calm, nurturing time that breastfeeding is meant for. I could care less where you feed them, I don't look/think twice. I just don't understand the point of the demonstrations and protests.

I dont see a problem with loading up a bottle and bringing it along.

If you had any knowledge in the actual point of breastfeeding, or the action itself, you'd understand that this isn't always an option. So again, ignorance.

As long as its Breast milk does it matter what Receptacle it comes in? When I have kids I'll put it in a red solo cup. Lol jk that's trashy lol

I am not a fan of letting it all hang out.

I know, I know - it's au natural, :blahblah: a beautiful moment between mother & child, :blahblah: and goodness gracious - babies need to be fed the nanosecond they whimper - so whipping it out any old place you please in public is totally justified, :blahblah: but also I think there is nothing wrong with MODESTY.

It's so very easy to be discreet while breastfeeding that I wonder why someone wouldn't.

I did it, but I was discreet about it because a) I'm modest like that and b) I'm not so selfish to not realize that it makes some people uncomfortable. Other times I would go find a dressing room so we both could chill in relative quiet and comfort. I don't care for women who are militant about it and make a point of whipping it out in public and calling attention to themselves. It's not like it hasn't been done before. :duh:

when you have kids, you will find out it does matter what receptacle it comes in.

Youngest would gag every time we tried to used a plastic pacifier or nipple. She had an allergy to latex when she was < 6 months old. Kinda narrows down those "receptacles".

I never went further than 2 hours from my baby the first 6 months. I WAS the receptacle.

Amazingly, yes, it does matter with some babies. The first week is by far the most important. Some babies have a hard time taking the breast if introduced to a bottle first and vice versa. My son ate so damn much I had to supplement with bottles but if the bottle nipple wasn't the "natural shape" he would not take it. He never took a pacifier but loved my pinky. Shape and texture matters to babies as well as taste. I pumped a lot to keep the "flow" going so when he emptied me (that sounds so funny) and was still hungry, I had back up.

Uh yeah, very rude! :smack:

Funny though, I see them as making a bigger stink about it by doing the 'hey look at me, I'm breastfeeding and dare you to stop me' demonstrations.
