Breezy Point Estates (Chesapeake Beach)?

I'm considering making an offer on a property in Chesapeake Beach, in the Breezy Point Estates community. Can anyone offer me their objective comments (well, okay, some subjective, because everyone has an opinion) on this part of Calvert County? I'm interested to know what the community is like, how excellent are the schools, any special considerations to be aware of, as well as commuting concerns? I know it's going to be a haul. I would be commuting from there to Annapolis Junction, and my wife would be commuting to downtown Silver Spring. She would continue driving, I would be open to other commuting options, such as buses, van and car pools.

It's looks like a very nice area, and certainly a welcome alternative to wonderful Montgomery County.

Thanks!

I work in Silver Spring.

If she can catch the commuter buses, she can ride the bus to Metro Center and then metro out.

It's a nice area...at least I think so. Schools are nice. Commute-wise, there aren't any commuter buses unless she would take one into DC and transfer to the Metro, as Huntr said. Martz runs the 904 line, which would be the one she would use. There are also van pools (and I'm sure there are carpools) but I'm not exactly sure which ones serve that area.

nobody really

I need a nap

Nice area , great schools , Farmers Market every friday night in North Beach , hundreds of slots machines I mean electronic bingo machines to gamble your savings away in Chesapeake Beach. Lots of places to eat , nice waterpark , two boardwalks to enjoy, live music and movies on the beach in North beach on some weekends. The commuter buses to DC area are a great plus if you work down town it was great when I worked in town. Your far enough from DC to enjoy some open space and clean air and little crime. Close enough to Annapolis and St Marys Co to shop and play , close enough to DC if you want to go there on the weekends or to commute daily.

The down side the only thing I can think of is the beaches are packed on weekends most are from out county DC area mainly. Then they bus in DCites and others to play slot machines ( electronic bingo ) in Chessie Beach so the resturants that have are packed and they bring there attitude with them.

All together nice place to live and easy commute to most places

cissp, not sure how old your children are but according to the following website "Both are served by Plum Point Elementary School which was recently selected and chosen by the U.S. Department of Education as a "National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence." and they would probably attend Plum Point Middle school. I think it may be in the Huntingtown High school district but not sure.

It appears they have an HOA here is the link to that website, but you have to be registered to get any info. out of it.

I live in Breezy Point. It's very quiet, and I've had no problems other than the occasional firecracker being set off. The community has a private beach area and hosts several events during the year (Easter egg hunt, community yard sale, Halloweeen party, Christmas party). Cell phone reception is very poor but internet service is available thru Comcast Cable. I use a MagicJack for my "landline" phone. Neighbors have been very friendly and helpful (shoveling snow and lending me a lawn mower). In fact, we seemed to be one of the first areas plowed during this winter's blizzards.

I commute to Lanham and it takes me about 50 minutes door-to-door on Friday evening (I only work weekend nights so can't give you much perspective on the weekday commute). There is a commuter bus that leaves from North Beach and travels to DC, so that's also an option if your work locations are near the subway routes.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

Okay, great, sound just like the type of community we're looking for. Now, one last thing, and I'm afraid it's a sensitive area with us. How are Hispanic people treated there? No, I do not mean illegal immigrants, but Hispanic Americans. My wife was born in Cuba but her and her parents immigrated to the U.S. LEGALLY, never used any public assistance (food stamps, welfare, etc.), all obtained their U.S. citizenship, and her parents scrimped and saved to put her through college (she received no grants, scholarships, nor any favorable treatment due to her ethnic heritage). The problem is, here in Oh-so-progressive Montgomery County, she faces discrimination on an almost daily basis. I just want to know if this is going to be worse by living in Chesapeake Beach/Calvert County, or just what you would find anywhere?

Thanks!

Chuck, I personally see no problem with this at all. I am not that familiar with Montgomery County or what goes on up there but I feel absolutely sure you would not have to worry about this at all in any way shape or form. I am a relative newcomer here in Calvert County, only lived here 24 years and have never witnessed any kind of harassment, or discrimination that you describe in your post towards any member of the Hispanic or Latino population at all in any way shape or form. If you have any additional questions at all please feel free to pm me I am pretty sure we have some mutual friends from Potomac Sr. High School area class of 70 / Marlow Heights/ Hillcrest Heights area. Am still sorry I couldn’t make it to the Chesapeake Beach Legion get together.
