Bridge at St Marys College?

story
Seems kind of silly. Have there been problems there? Traffic backups or students being hit? Maybe a couple of crossing guards during peak hours would do it.

I remember when they wanted to pave with bricks, turned out it would have been very slick whenever it rained.

Wow the author of that story has some very angry POVs. Anywho, In my 3.5 years there, there was never an accident with students going across the road. It did however cause massive traffic jams during "in between class" periods when students have their 10 minutes to get from one class to the next. And yes, the traffic jams usually last those full 10 minutes with only a few cars being able to get through.

Don't build a bridge. Its ridiculous. Motorists just need to learn that if they want to travel around the college during tranisiton periods, its usually quicker to go through the college than around it.

A flippin' traffic light (or crossing guard) would be one hell of a lot cheaper for the American taxpayer!

Damn that person is bitter as hell.

So where would this bridge be anyway? Between the library and the post office?

Frankly I think it's a dumb idea. I crossed that road three or four times a day for four years, drunk and sober.

Of course this is just the opinion of a single St Marys elitist.

:yeahthat: I'm with you! I too crossed that road many times in various states of sobriety and never had any problems. Of course, I would think there is a lot more traffic there now than there was in my time... Still, if the students don't have the "smarts" to know not to step out in front of a car...

Yeah well there were some real brick heads when I went there, folks who would lean up against the wood stove at the green door in the winter. Real bright bulbs.

Lets keep it the way it is and call it natural selection.

not trying to hijack this thread, but does anyone know if they're going to finish the wharf or pier past the old leonardtown square? if so, when will it be finished?

BTW, at least if a student gets hit crossing the road, they don't have far to go to the hospital, but that hospital sucks, so they're still in trouble....

As someone who as passed by the college at least 2,000 times, I agree that there is a bit of a problem.

The biggest problem is kids on bikes who think they have the same rights as pedestrians. They'll zoom into the crosswalk, assuming that the cars will see them in time to stop. The college needs to stop students from riding in the crosswalk. They should either get off the bike and walk it, or ride on the road and follow the rules of the road.

The other problem is that there are some inconsiderate students who will slow down or speed up walking through the crosswalk so that they ensure that no cars can get through. It would be nice if the students would bunch up and cross in groups, allowing cars to share the road, but consideration is a bit lacking. This is where a signal at the intersection would be most useful.

We'll eventually have a drunk or preoccupied driver take out a few kids in the crosswalk, so I agree something needs to be done, but there is no justification for a bridge. They could spend far less by educating the cyclists and putting in a pedestrian signal.

Were the "bright bulbs" there on the ten-year plan? :lmao: I think you're right -- natural selection is the way to go. :high5:

Maybe he is talking about the health center on campus. Which really is there for no other reason then to dispense aspirin and condoms.

Basher is a little slow sometimes. He's thinking the thread is about the Community College of SOMD in Leonardtown.
