Good Morning! I was wondering if anyone can please tell me what/if there is a number to call to see about bridge closings. Particularly the Thomas Johnson Bridge (Solomons). Thanks!!!!

I don't know any phone #s, but in the past the TJ bridge wasn't closed unless winds were sustained 50mph. I don't think we've gotten to that point today. Probably a few gusts that high.

Friend of mine said that the Harry Nice Bridge(301) is closed to empty tractor trailers and has been for a while....but, the Bay Bridge isn't, yet

The bridge is open now cuz I just came acrossed it. The wind isn't that bad on top, but a semi may feel the gusts...

Bohman is correct. The bridge will only be closed if there is a constant 50 miles an hour wind. Even when we have had several Tropical systems/hurricanes come through the bridge has never been closed.

It's been closed at least twice since I've lived here.

It was briefly closed during Isabelle - was that '03 or '04? I haven't been here long enough to know of any other closings.

Only remember once when they closed it for winds a couple years back.
Was Isabelle that last big one that did all the damage? They closed the bridge from like 6PM to 8 or 9 AM the next day, and there was another storm where they had closed it early evening until like 2 or 3 am.. That was awhile after the hurricane. Those are the two I remember, but I lived almost at the base of the bridge at the time, and would find out by word of mouth that it was closed...

When they close it for wind is it still ok to jump off it? That would be the time to jump, I mean it's already closed so you wouldn't be disrupting traffic.
Or they could have a set aside time like "Bridge will be closed from 11PM to 1130 PM Tues. and Sat. Jumping only at these times".

My husband is a firefighter for Solomons and he has been there for all the hurricanes and tropical depressions they we have had in the last 10 years. There are always rumors and there were many phone calls made to the firehouse asking if the bridge was closed. A phone call would have been made from the Emergency Management office to the firehouse if it was closed. I just called my husband and verified it and he said it has never been closed for the weather.

plus, if you jumped with the wind, you could get some pretty good distance, not just the vertical drop. Nothing wrong with going for a few style points on your way out.
