Broadband expansion in southern Md

Our sad T1 was what we wanted to replace... it was limited to 1.4 MB total bandwidth. Verizon kept bombarding us with sales calls offering FIOS so we simply said : "Sure..have it!..shoot us a price". We ended up having Breezeline come in with a new feed and business service and it's been OK for the price...less than $500/month. three phone lines, and typically 50MB upload and 100MB download actual measured service.
Damn. If you are willing to spend 500 a month you should look into getting a microwave relay. Or I think there were some other wireless internet providers. Hell, if you know someone 2 miles away that is on that FIOS you could easily use a directional wi-fi repeater and piggy-back their connection.

It was over 800/month when were with Broadview and using the 1.4MB Verizon T1. We're on an island...2 miles just barely gets us to the bridge from the office.

I thought I saw reference to fios being a couple miles from you. Regardless, a wireless repeater home or business class if you want to be fancy, or a full router, can be stuck on a very cheap directional antenna and easily get 5-8 miles (I have personally seen 4 miles using a pringles can). If both sides use directional it's even longer.

I'm pretty sure the Lundeberg School isn't going to support setting my engineering business voice and data with a free connection. Or any connection. I don't think they even had it there until a Homeland Security group rented building/office space on the campus. And I'm quite certain they aren't going to "hook us up"...:killingme

Verizon quoted us over 50K to go from there to our office building.

Just sneakin' around....

Any idea what Ruddy Duck has for service? Make a deal with them and run a Cat-6 cable along the side of the road in the drainage ditch. It's only a mile or so.....

I'm pretty sure that our business service is already faster than most anyone else has on the island. Some have disk service but we're on the wrong side of the large forest of very tall trees for that to work....it was looked in to like every other option.
