Bubble children and helicopter parents

What I don't understand are the parents that think every waking moment of a Saturday or sunday needs to be spent at Chucky Cheese, or at a park or doing something for your kid... I don't remember my parents taking me anywhere every weekend??? It's like you feel BAD if you're not going to do something "special" for them every weekend like everyone else is. Go to every fair all summer, go to every amusement park... whose got time for that?

My cousin is like that. Every day on the weekend is filled w/ some adventure...movies, mall, chuck e cheese, kings dominion, bowling, etc... During the summer every day is like that. Those type of things are once a month treats for my kids...if that!

Bill Cosby once said that 2 adults with just 1 child are not REAL parents.

If something goes wrong... you already know who did it!

I would agree with that in a normal marriage, not so much with mine, my husband is capable of just as much "wrongdoing" as my 3 year old !!!

BINGO, I try and do one cool thing on a Saturday once a month... my kids weekend fun is hanging at home with me and dad or going to the grocery store.

I didn't have any money when my kids were young but we did free or cheap stuff all the time. Go to friends' house and play games, have people over, play kickball in the yard, go to Waldorf for pizza, hit up one of the fair/festival things locally. Heck, that wasn't about the kids specifically - *I* wanted entertainment. Weekends and even during the week, we always had something going on.

Then, of course, on a rare lay around the house day, they would have the nerve to go, "I'm bored. Aren't we going to do anything??"

See I'm the opposite, we have the money to do stuff, but I don't want him to think we NEED to do something every weekend. This summer we stayed home most weekend and he played with the sprinkler and loved it. We hit one fair (Charles) and would go to the park and get a happy meal if time permitted. We always seem to be busy. This weekend he'll get the fun of dealing with us getting Comcast cable installed on Saturday and probably the grocery store on Sunday. (but I did promise him Sweet Frog after school tom)

To be fair, most of what's on TV for adults these days is all cusswords and porno.
It amazes me the changes on TV since we were kids. I hear all kinds of cuss words on regular TV, that would not have been allowed by the censors years ago......but, unless it's late night, you won't hear them say "sh!t."

I am so very blessed
We do a lot of running around, because of sports functions, scouting events, and family obligations, so it seems like we ALWAYS have something going on.

I'm freakin' tired, and I'm sure that Bubba gets tired of all the activities, too. I mean, like I am TIRED. I think it's because we are always on the road, plus I'm just getting old. :frown:

Some weekends, it's just like "can we PLEASE stay home and do nothing for a change?" kind of thing.
