Got some that I want to target practice with on some private farm property.

Is this legal ?

Yes. you can use it for target practice but cant hunt deer with it, at least not here. You can hunt Seika in the Black Water with it.

Why wouldn't it be unless you breaking the larger laws of firing near roads or houses?

Afraid you're wrong. This is the species they are reffering to. Maryland's Sika Deer - Wildlife and Heritage Service

They are tiny and very nocturnal. Gotta kill two just for a sandwich.
