If I may ...
I had a couple buzzing me yesterday when I was stacking some wood in the woodshed.
Couple years back we had one that would hover around the sliding door of my RV. It would chase away the wasps but wouldn’t bother us.
Have a whole bunch around my place, maybe 20-30 buzzing around here and there. The other day, around a wooden structure, while one was guarding against other males, I think, chasing others away when they got closer, he would always return to a fixed place of hover. Was able to get within 1-2 feet of his hover and just watch him fixed in air space, pivoting, scanning, which they do a lot of, left/right, while always maintaining his exact elevation. Then he'd fly away to chase away another he saw getting too close to an area he was surveilling about six feet away, then return right back close to my head where he was prior. Watched this for about five minutes, just staring, fascinated. They sure can move some air with those wings, at close distance, one can feel the breeze created, their little legs folded under like the landing gear of an airplane, and antenna pointing straight up in a V pattern. A very interesting experience. At times it was if he was looking back at me. Never felt threatened or worried about being attacked. Next time, hopefully I'll have my phone on me to try to get a picture while one is in hover mode. They are really some little marvels. And with so many around, pretty sure my garden plants will have no problem being pollinated, a super plus.
