My friend is having a hard time with the fact MOST of the drivers on the opposite side of their road are passing her daughter's bus as her 5 YO is being let off. The bus driver has instructed the mother to take digital pictures or video tape the cars not stopping while the bus is stopped with lights going and stop sign pulled out for oncoming traffic to see. She has done this today. This is on route 231 on the charles side and close to the bridge. She said the day it rained there were near misses by the bus which had a number of children on it, one car stopped but the screeching tires behind it were loud so it would have been a huge mess.

I've told her to call the maryland State Police barricks, maybe an officer will come out and keep an eye out. She's near the Rviera Kennels.

Any other suggestions?

Slow down folks. better late than dead!

People are idiots. Call the Charles County Sheriffs Office. They can probably help. 'Specially with the photos.

I used to drive that route on my way to/from work. I don't know how many times I've seen people completely pass the bus, or come thisclose to rear ending me or other vehicles who actually stop for the bus. I don't know what it is about that road.

School bus drivers are my heros

We all talk about people talking on cell phones being distracted.... how distracting can kids screaming in the back seat be... take that number and multiply it by 30.... but if a school bus is moving too slow or stopping too frequently while we are trying to rush to wherever.... we are so rude... we should all be ashamed of ourselves.....

Why is it that no one ever gives a School Bus Driver the respect they deserve!!?!!

I made it my new goal to say a prayer of thanks for the school bus driver every time I see one now....I can close my eyes for a second or two while I am stopped.... :howdy:

Get photo's of both the plate number and the driver. You'll have to be willing to go sit in court and testify as to what you saw.
Be prepared for lawyers to ask for continuences in the hope you'll get tired of showing up.

Public School or private? If public:

Have you contacted the County School System Transportation Supervisor? I would advise him/her of the issue, at least to let them know you are going to escalate things to the level of calling the police. I would call the Supervisor, then follow it up with a letter confirming the conversation and cc the BoE members. Remember it is an election year and I wouldn't be surprised to see you get a lot of reaction from the BoE.

I heard of this problem in St. Mary's and some of the "better", more conscience bus drivers have taken it upon themselves to carry a disposable camera with them. I've heard of one driver who takes a picture of the offending driver using the side view mirror. In the picture you also see the stop sign marker that extends when the red flashing lights are on. He certainly has it down as good or better than the red light cameras.

If it's private you aren't going to get much from the County School Supervisor or their BoE, I'd still try and contact the school administration...
