I'd say 25 - 50% of the trucks on the road up here aren't up to the US safety standard.. and from what I understand for a truck from Mexico to travel our roads it has to meet our safety standards, and they have to abide by our rules of the road as it pertains to american commercial trucking.desertrat said:It's only partly about security. The main problem is the trucks may not be up to US safety standards and not insured by US companys if at all. The drivers are not subjected to the same rules, ie length of time they are allowed to operate without a siesta, etc.
I don't see a problem, in the end the Mexican trucks will meet the US safety standard moreso then trucks on the roads here in MD. We want a prosperous open economy, this is what you have to do. What other country in the world requires foreign trucks to stop, unload and reload their cargo onto "national" trucks that can complete the delivery?
