It's only partly about security. The main problem is the trucks may not be up to US safety standards and not insured by US companys if at all. The drivers are not subjected to the same rules, ie length of time they are allowed to operate without a siesta, etc.
I'd say 25 - 50% of the trucks on the road up here aren't up to the US safety standard.. and from what I understand for a truck from Mexico to travel our roads it has to meet our safety standards, and they have to abide by our rules of the road as it pertains to american commercial trucking.

I don't see a problem, in the end the Mexican trucks will meet the US safety standard moreso then trucks on the roads here in MD. We want a prosperous open economy, this is what you have to do. What other country in the world requires foreign trucks to stop, unload and reload their cargo onto "national" trucks that can complete the delivery?

I'd say it is OK as long as EVERY truck is searched for illegals and gassed with insecticide at the border to prevent some disastrous plague on our agriculture.

Actually the way it is being done now I'm sure is a Union idea.. and I'm sure NONE of the cargo gets gassed or nuked while being transferred from a South/ Central American truck to a national carrier's truck..

The scare tactics listed above to stop this from starting sounds like something staright form a teamsters pamphlet.

Maybe, but it is also certain that there are no illegals among the cargo when it is transferred.

Don't the majority of Democrats agree with Bush on an immigratipn policy?
ISLAMOCRAT!

Why do you hate America?

Why do you hate our troops?

OK, seriously, you're right. The Democrats do support border control and have been vocal about it for years. But, it's good for business so the repukes only recently supported border control.

I think the FDA has to inspect the produce anyways.

:bs: Both sides have always talked about supporting border control, but neither side wants to actually do something about it.

Of course, because it costs too much money and the public is only interested in border control right up to the moment thier taxes go up a penny. So, like puppy mills, we will preach about border control to keep the votes coming in and maybe make token gestures, but that's about it.

For a little while and then it will be too costly. Any bets?
how do they transfer cargo now?? Where at? I don't think this means any more or less cargo coming across the border, just less manpower, and less vehicles actually going into the border vicinity. Less people needed to unload and load trucks, one vehicle at the border crossing instead of two..etc.
