It appears The Commander Guy finally found his motivation.

President George W Bush has enlisted British special forces in a final attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden before he leaves the White House.

Defence and intelligence sources in Washington and London confirmed that a renewed hunt was on for the leader of the September 11 attacks. “If he [Bush] can say he has killed Saddam Hussein and captured Bin Laden, he can claim to have left the world a safer place,” said a US intelligence source.

Looks like the task of polishing up that turd of a legacy has recaptured our President's attention. Regardless of the reasons...let's just hope it helps to get the job done.

I doubt it's a legacy thing.

I think it has more to do with the fact that a Democrat has a very good chance of taking office next, and he's not going to leave that tender morsel out there for them to grab up.

If McCain's chances looked better, Bush would continue ignoring Bin Laden.

I think you are partially right.. not that the Demoncrats would go get him themselves as much as they would make nicey nice with him and probably reward him by giving him his own country to run.

Today an enemy of the State, #1 on the international most wanted list. Democrat becomes President and now they are a world leader, sitting at the diplomats table negotiating as a head of state.

I think THAT is what Bush is concerned about, and rightfully so.

No, I think you did. You focused in on the word "renewed" in regards to his efforts from this report. That makes the assumption that the efforts stopped, or were minimized. Just because he isn't talking about it, pontificating about it, making false and empty promises about it, doesn't mean he isn't doing something about it. He's a Republican, not a Democrat - he'll let you know when it's accomplished, not talk to death about it without doing anything.

It certainly could be that, as well. Either way, it's sad to think that the US president needs political gain to be the motivating factor when it comes to pulling out all the stops to get Bin Laden.

As early as March of 2002, President Bush admitted he didn't spend that much time thinking about Bin Laden. That he really wasn't that concerned about him. That admission, along with a total focus shift from Bin Laden to Saddam Hussein would certainly hint at a reduction in effort.

As I said before, regardless of the true motivations, hopefully this intensified focus and effort will produce results.

Well whatever the reason, I doubt it's "legacy".


I don't think history will reflect too negatively on W. as it sits. I don't like him, myself, but he's not nearly the monster you guys have convinced yourselves he is.

We were distracted from the war on terror when we invaded Iraq. :lol:

Only people who have taken attention away from Afghanistan in the first place is President Bush and the Congress that authorized this inane war.

I would hope he didn't personally spend that much time thinking about bin Laden - he has more important things to consider. I would hope he delegated that. I don't think he thought much about Saddam, either.

I just don't think this is an intensified focus and effort, I think it's a reinvigorated reporting based upon found information.
