"MEXICO CITY -- The White House announced Monday a $1.4-billion military and security package to assist Mexico and several Central American countries in their fight against drug-trafficking groups threatening the region's democracies.

President Bush requested an initial $550-million appropriation from Congress, with the rest of the funds to be distributed over one or two years. The aid is to go for helicopters, police training and communications and data-processing equipment.

The package "delivers vital assistance for our partners in Mexico and Central America, who are working to break up drug cartels and fight organized crime," Bush said. "All of these are urgent priorities of the United States, and the Congress should fund them without delay."

Another 1.4 billion dollars tossed into the crapper never to return.

He wont need it if the fires head into mexico and burn all the drugs

I wonder what the affects of 1000 acres of pot-farm going up in smoke would be.

Everyone in North/Central America will be unusually relaxed for a week or so, Frito-Lay's profits will go up by 950%, and everyone will gain 10 pounds due to an inexplicable increase in between-meal munching.

Peace dudes.:peace::cool::snacks:

:yeahthat: We need to stop going after the people selling drugs, and start prosecuting people for using drugs. Do drugs, and you get a taxpayer funded trip to rehab, to rest up for your next bout. Sell drugs, and you go to jail, only to be replaced in a split second by someone else. If we get rid of the demand, the supply will stop all by itself.

Make using a huge fine, based upon your income so that it's not just a tax for rich people (15% of your annual wages, or something like that).

What George doesn't understand is that we are sick of "assisting" Mexico with OUR problem. They have no reason or desire to fix OUR problem. They care about their problems, not OUR problem.

Every penny of that $1.4 billion needs to go to shutting down OUR border to fix OUR problem. If the drugs cannot make it over the border, they can't be sold. Mexico's drug gang problem goes away. Problem solved.

Sending money to Mexico is just like the sewage plant they put in Tijuana to stop their pollution from crossing into San Diego. We payed the money, they built the plant, and now it doesn't work. Why? Because it isn't their problem, it's OUR problem, and they don't care. We need to dam up that foul trickle of sewage they call a river and let it be their problem.

And yet they prosecute border patrol agents that arrest smugglers.

If you are referring to Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, I agree. They should be pardoned or at least have their prison sentences commuted as Bush did for his friend Scooter Libby.

I'm going to ask this again...

... what harm is someone causing to society by smoking pot in their own homes?

The drug isn't the problem, the laws are. If the chit wasn't illegal to start with, then there'd be no gang wars over weed, no illegal drug dealers, and then our prisons would be able to hold sex predators.

Instead, we make it illegal and hold people in prison for years for smoking a relatively harmless substance and then :blahblah: about the prisons are overcrowded so we have to let sexual predators walk the streets.

Damn: Did you hit that nail on the head. Your Post is 100% correct.

The police and military of Mexico are so corrupt, what good is sending money?

I wouldn't send them a lead penny. They have oil money if they really want to shut down their drug dealings they can afford it on their own. Of course they don't want to because half the police and military and the Government are dealers per se'

Honestly, it's only slightly more harmful than alcohol. Like other drugs, pot is a controlled substance. Your thought process could go to heroin, codeine (sp?), etc., etc. The question is where to draw the line. We've drawn it.

Like I said before, I wouldn't imprison the users, for the reasons you state above. I'd fine 'em. And, make the fine be tied to their net worth so that it's the same fine for Lindsey and Brittany as it would be for you and I - the same pain, that is. Basically, tax it out of existence, like people are trying to do with alcohol and cigarettes.

Right...and then we have states like ours, Maryland, that is considered a "sanctuary state" and caters to illegal aliens...time to move out...
