C-sections at St. Mary's Hospital

I'm wondering if the hospital supplies abdominal support belts post-surgery or if I'll need to supply my own. Anyone with any experience?

Why would you need one?
You could always call the L&D Dept. @ the hospital and ask.

I had two c-sections at Calvert, post surgery they wrapped me tight with some velcro type thing. I remember it was very supportive but I was encouraged to get up and walk around asap.

When I had my son 5 years ago, I felt very unstable and floppy. I've heard these belts help support your incision so it's more comfy while you're recovering.

Just out of curiosity, what does a belly feel like shortly after birth or C-section? Apart from unstable and floppy, I mean. Does it hurt or is it sore? How long does it take to snap back?

Uterine muscles NEVER snap back. :yay:

I was never sore from a vaginal birth..at least not my belly. It feels odd..jello-ish..looks like a deflated balloon. Didn't take me long after either pregnancy to slim down and get back to normal.

C-section is basically the same jello-ish but you can't use your stomach muscles for 2 weeks after a C-Section and that makes it hard to get around in the beginning

Sounds like some good comedy to look forward to in the future.

I have 3 children. My first birth was vaginal(after 3 months you could not tell I had been pregnant ) and my last 2 were c-section.
Even after my second baby and first c-section my tummy did go back to being flat and toned..However after my 3rd birth and 2nd c-section my tummy does not stick out but it definitely did not snap back like the first 2.If I look from a far in the mirror when naked I can see where the muscles did not spring back .Although I look flat with clothes on and close up in the mirror naked.
With my first c-section .I lost the weight quickly.A good trick is when walking squeeze in your tummy.Really pull it in and do this whilst walking. It might feel a bit tricky but gradually you will not feel the 'sucking in' as you will have trained your muscles and strengthened them.
When I go to the gym I really try and pull my tummy muscles in. Abdominal crunches are not good for you in the first few months after a c-section but the pulling in and holding your tummy when walking really works.
I think a support belt sounds great though .I think the French do this .

I think my reply had too much TMI:blushing:

I try and suck my tummy in anyways, figured it would help my muscles there firm up. So when I'm a sick/drunk mess and not thinking about sucking it in, maybe it doesn't look so bad,

Thinking about not looking so bad...

I remember the days after the babies were born..looking in the mirror, not having that huge belly and thinking "damn, I look good." Reality set in quickly when the only pants I could get on were the ones I wore to the hospital. :lmao:

This is off topic but has anyone every had vaginal deliveries and then had their tubes tide? Do they have to cut you open like they would for a c section?

They can do it laparoscopically, which means one or two small abdominal incisions (band-aid size), not a big c-section type incision. I'm not positive, but pretty sure they won't do it immediately after a vaginal birth.

12 hours after. My baby was born at 9:31 PM and I had my tubes tied at 9:44 AM. :yahoo:

High or low?

That's done via laparoscopy.

Thanks I wasnt sure if they had to cut you open or not. My sister is pregnant so it was a question of should I just have a c-section from the get go since they are gonna have to open me up anyway type of thing.
