Why are the locally played ads twice the volume of the network ads? This is particularly bad on Discovery, but we notice it on other channels too. Isn't this something that is controlled locally?

For example, while watching a show, a commercial break comes up. everything is fine, then a Ralph's Dodge ad starts and the sound is much louder, to the point of distortion.

I noticed that too and I've been meaning to talk w/ our Spotlight group about it. The equipment that runs the commercials probably needs to be adjusted. Can you give me specific channels and times if you ever get a chance? I'll try to take a look tonight and see if I can catch some and I'll turn the information over.

I've noticed that on a more than a few cable providers over the years. I can't help but assume that it's done on purpose for some reason, since it's so common. I couldn't begin to guess what that reason is, though.

That is one reason I left cable and went to Direct TV, plus more channels for the money.
I've noticed the same thing on TBS or TNT while watching a movie...and I have DirecTV. In that case though, I don't think the channel set their levels correctly. Same thing happens if I go from satellite to a DVD...I need to turn the DVD up a couple notches. I need to figure out how to make that adjustment on my receiver...

Discovery was really bad last night at 9. My wife says that channel 5 is quieter than other channels, so if you are watching then change the channel it ends up being too loud.

I think History and Food also have issues. It sounds like it all just generally needs to be adjusted.

Thanks!

My wife said the same thing last night, and asked if that's illegal. I told her that I think it is if it is done intentionally. I don't think that's the case here though - it really does just seem like something is mis-adjusted.

When I watch 24 on Fox, I have to turn the volume up to almost max. When a commercial comes on, I have to turn it back down. It's crazy.

I've always thought it was so you could still hear what kind of crap they're selling (in the kitchen or bathroom) when you leave the room for a couple minutes.

Agree, if someone wants to pass a law that will make America happy, make these idiots in the TV industry stop this practice, my bet is they do it since most people walk away to take a break and these fuk heads still want you to hear what they have to say... :wench:

You in the bathroom, come down to Eastern Motor, where your jobs your credit...

9:38 tonight, Discovery Channel, Cerro Grande ad was so loud that it was distorted. I doubt this is intentional since it hurts your client.

Cablechick, any update on helping? Should I call?

I've put in a call to the master control tech to check the levels. I haven't heard anything back. I'll see if I can get an update.

I've noticed some of the "national" commercials loud as well and we have no control over those.

Can you ping me now? Good
Very loud? Commercials? Really I haven't noticed

Oh wait a minute I don't have cable :buttkick: And no chance of getting it in the next 50 years :twitch: Sucks living in the sticks!

Duh! :smack: Yeah! It's called brainwashing and controlling... no one is gonna fix it. And it is not just local commercials... it's almost all commercials. Do a google about it and you'll find they do the same thing in the theatres too. It was not long ago the theatres were busted for doing what was called flashing. They would flash various products WHILE the movie was playing, so it would embed into your brain. You can research that and find it is true. This is the same concept and nothing will change until ALL customers stand up to them and expose it! Cable companies lost touch with their customers... you'll have more control and more channels with satellite. I think most satellite owners will agree the extra cost is worth it...
