Plus 1 for Satellite, but yes the commercials can be loud, particularly the local station commercials. I think cable and sat boxes should come with a noise filter like receivers which will auto adjust the receiver volume (my system only works in THX surround sound mode) if one station is louder than the other.

Last, the speakers on my TV work great so I don't always use THX surround sound mod, thus my TV volume will increase during local commercials. Lately I've found the mute button to be quite helpful during commercials, however this does still not solve the problem and TV, Cable, and SAT are all aware of the practice and frankly couldn't give a sh!t....

Dumped comcrap for TV years ago. Still have them for internet connectivity but I think we will switch to the dish for that too. I can deal with the 500ms lag so long as I am sure the service is reliable. Friggin cable is still not up in Northern Calvert. Tried to work from home yesterday but no go cause comcrap couldn't get their equipment back up and running.

I don't think the problem being expressed in this thread is that commercials are subtly or even noticably louder than the show.


The problem at hand is that local commercials are incredibly, mind-blowingly, exceptionally, unbelievably louder than even the most obnoxious network commercials... to the point where the sound becomes distorted and flanged because the volume is too much for TV speakers.

Yes but other then sound the locally produced commercials have extraordinary production value.

I assume the above karma was from Cable chick. You know I really wish if people were going to try and bash you they at least had the balls (although I guess that wouldn't count if this was really cablechick) to sign their drivel.

As for what I said I stand by my argument, where we live the cable goes out if the wind blows hard. It has been my experience that Sat TV is much more reliable. Now, as far as this most recent outage I really wouldn't be bothered as we have all this ice and such. However, when I call comcrap to ask when the service might be restored and they tell me that my service never went out in the first place, well you can imagine I might get a little frustrated.

All my HBO channels are real LOW.. but the Porn channel is real LOUD.. so when I'm switching to "Last channel" from HBO, BG gets woken up mid-moan.
