Call me "Old Fashion"

My g/f and I had a discussion last night about, does it matter when in a committed serious relationship for the male to say, "I Love You" first or the female.

Call me old fashion but I feel it should be the male.

it goes with the feelings, there are no rules to dating.

I can't help how I was brought up.

How you were brought up? So your mom and dad sat you down and said, "Now redneck, don't you go tellin that there boy you love him first; that's his job. Run along dear and wash the dishes, it's time for you to do wimmens work."

 J/P...I honestly don't think it matters who says it first. If you (or your 'friend') feels it, then say it.

Honestly it has to do more with my grandmother, don't do this, don't do that, what for him to ask you out....etc. etc.

She is in love, wants to tell him, doesn't know how to tell him. Wants to surprise him with something, like dinner and a poem. We ended up getting on the topic who should be first to say it.

Isn't anyone going to ask what constitutes a commented serious relationship?

I agree, in a perfect world the man would say it first. A woman saying it first often spooks a man badly, causing him to shy and bolt. Him saying it first assures the woman he hasn't been "guilted" into it by her own declaration of love.

Oh gawd, she's (and you I guess) waaaaaay overthinking it. Don't plan it, she should just let it come out. How old is she/you??

We both are 31

Hmm, well I honestly think she's overthinking it. She's putting too much pressure on the words "I Love You"...they should just come out naturally. Planning a dinner, writing a poem...ugh. I say, make dinner like normal (or go out if that's there thing), watch some tv and just let it happen. There's no "how-to"...just say, "Ya know, I'm so glad to have found you. You make me happy...I LOVE YOU"
