Calvert County: What is this building? It is huge!

A few weeks ago Google finally introduced high-res maps of Prince Frederick, and of Lexington Park, California, Pax River, and Hollywood to their beta program called "Google Earth", formerly Keyhole.

Something caught my eye as I was searching for the Prince Frederick Library, I noticed that at 31 miles away from the Earth, I could see a building in Calvert County. That shouldn't be. I zoomed in on it and found this weird triangle shaped facility, looks to be a water holding pond. It is too far north of the nuclear plant to be part of it.

It is nearly as big as the Pentagon, so it really stands out. It is bigger than the Walmart and it's parking lot. This is a really huge faciltity.

What is it?

For Google Earth/Keyhole users, here is a location file to view it yourself:
http://www.prestons.org/calvert/huge-facility.kmv

The sides of this structure measure 508 feet in length (169 yards) on each side.

It looks like a water holding facility, but why build an "above ground" facility for holding water when it is cheaper to build it in the ground?

Anyone know what this facility actually is? It near the end of Tobacco Ridge Road. At the actual end of Tobacco Ridge Road appears to be a waste treatment plant, but this is just a guess from the satellite photos. It could be a farm house if I am way off.

You know, I actually GOT Google Earth, just to look at this damned thing. And it IS huge - but because it's so dark, I've gotta believe it's some kind of reservoir - water always appears black on this thing. It also appears to be at the end of a very long road, and what appears to be maintenance vehicles and facilities nearby.

That's my guess for what it's worth.

It doesn't seem to show up on a terra server picture taken on the first of this month.

I looked at Terra Serva but the picture I saw was from 1993, it wasn't there then either. I didn't see how you could search for a newer picture. How did you find the newer date?

It looks fake to me:shrug:
On the top of the triangle there is a shadow(indicating that the light source is comming from the bottom right. However the top and the left sides if the triangle are brighter than the left?

the only explanation that comes close is that the sides if the triangle slope down into the black center which would explain the shadow conflict, but the problemb with that is the telephone pole?? on the bottom left of the triangle. It's shadow, if cast on a downward surface should angle drastically to the left but it doesnt. It's shadow matches direction with the shadow's of the surrounding trees

Sorry, the shot I found was from 9/1/2004 - a year ago. It's the first high res. choice of pictures.

It is the facility where they store of the clones of Dick Cheney so whenever one dies of a heart attack they just replace him. Attack of the clones indeed.

The 9/1/2004 shot shows what appears to be a clearing where the triangle is now...

Hard to imagine something was built that size that quickly. I think it's a fake or a mistake.

That's what I was thinking too. But if you actually download Google Earth, you see it. Looking all through other areas, you can't find anything like it...as if it was a marker or something.

The street is just about a mile from our house. When it stops raining, maybe we'll take a little drive.

That's what I was thinking - she'll get down to the end of that road, see some guys with guns and uniforms, and they'll close in behind her.
