Calvert Scanner

Just curious.. but if your power goes out will the scanner still work?

If the power goes out it will drop the Calvert scanner offline for a short period of time, until I get the generator running. I had the system on a UPS but the batteries went bad in the UPS and was sporadically cutting off power to the scanner feed computer, so I went back to SMECO power. I am planning to replace the scanner UPS soon, just not gotten it done yet. It is gonna cost me, too, I need a 1500 VA UPS and that is going to run about $250 . Ouch.

So, yes, the Calvert scanner feed will be up if I lose power, after a 10 minute or so interruption.

Thanks.. was wondering what I would need to add to my already long list

BTW, I put the snow plow guys, channel "Highway" on lockout for a while. If ya'll want it back on I will turn it back on, but the Redneck Bros. conversations were blocking the public safety callouts.

The Highway Dept. is back in the scan cycle, however I have *not* heard them in a while --- they may be just waiting for the snow to stop, or might be waiting on the wind. Plowing would be fairly futile right now with the blowing snow, I'd think.

I was just out.. saw lots of trucks and plows but none with the blades down. They were just driving.

Just heard the first call from Highway Control in a *long* time, directing to begin pushing the primary roads only, but no salt is to be applied.

Sounded tired. Not surprising, I guess.

We just lost power, the Calvert scanner is now running on backup generator power.

WOW! We saw the transformer blow and *major* sparks flying. Since I suspect that this is a localized power outage I expect that it will be a while for SMECO to fix it. We have lots of gasoline for the generator and we have basic internet connectivity and power for the computer, lights, and the microwave oven. So much for cooking that cherry pie though!

I think I am *really glad* I did that ops check on the generator yesterday, and that I moved it onto it's pad a few days ago before the big snow hit. I had it covered up with a tarp so it was easy to fire it up when we lost power, yaaa!

Power is back on, will be shutting the scanner down for a couple of minutes while switching back to normal power.

You're doing a hell of job, much appreciated. :buddies:

Looks like Lusby is the king of the hill when it comes to power outages, at least according to SMECO. They are doing a heck of a job getting folks back up though, the numbers have been pretty low and changing quickly throughout the day.

Thanks! Now to head out into the blizzard to refuel the generator and cover it back up. Oh the joy!

Calvert scanner is back online. For some reason my internet connection dropped, discovered it this morning, may have been down all night? Reset my DSL modem and it's all working now.
