Can a dog be racist?

I had a doxie once who could have been considered racist. She hated black people. Anytime I had black friends over, I had to cage her. Her hackles went up and she got a real fierce growl. Jim, the Schwan's guy, was able to befriend her, but that didn't change her behavior. No one was ever mean to her, so I don't know where she got that behavior, but she never outgrew it.

I also had a rescue dog that HATED men. Again, hackles went up, and the dog went crazy. (Hackles up on an Aussie is much more impressive than on a doxie) Had to give him away. My dad spent hours befriending him, so he lives nearby, but they have to lock him in their bedroom if any male comes over. Even my son, who the dog was bought for. I had little kids too and the dog was fine until the little boy got to 6 yrs old. Now he growls at him as well.

Yes, I was trying to reiterate what you said albeit poorly. When my girls were young they were a bit overbearing with my cat. They liked to hug her and pet her and squeeze her and dress her up (and name her George). The poor thing finally had enough of that crap and will now only go to son #2 and Joe for affection.

It just goes to show, it really is important the impressions you leave on your pet.

Apollo has no bias against gender or race - he is an equal opportunity hater. He hates the UPS guy and the school bus driver, and he really really hates the guy down the street with the motorcycle. He loves the yard guy...unless YG is actively cutting the grass, then Apollo hates him.

I think Apollo hates loud noises and he's actually telling everybody to "cut out all the racket"...

Not all dogs hate the UPS man. Mine love him. They love him so much that they try to jump in the truck and go for a ride with him. Unfortunately for them the poor UPS guy isn't their biggest fan.

Our UPS lady brings little MilkBones for our dogs so they looooooove it when she comes by.
