Hello :howdy:
I would suggest that you go to a good garden center or nursery, like Meadows Farms for example, and ask them which kind of flowers to choose. I'm sure they would be able to recommend something hardy that could work for you. Maybe try perennials, because they come back year after year, as opposed to annuals which must be replanted next season. You could even get a little crazy and throw in a few annuals with the perennials :lmao:. Do you have full sun, partial shade or full shade in that area? That really makes a lot of difference in what kind of flowers you should buy. If you have full shade, and buy flowers that need full sun, you are bound to fail even if you have the greenest thumb.
Good Luck!

Help me out here, Larry. What are the daylillies that bloom continously all summer. They're shorter than regular daylillies....it's right on the tip of my tongue.

Nope. They are yellow and they bloom continously thru-out the summer and then come back every year. They are short (maybe 12-15"). It's a type of lilly.

Anyway, guy that wanted to know, get some of those.

...Stella Dora's are pretty short, if memory serves. Nice plant.

I like the simplicity of a bed that's mostly perennials and bulbs with a few annuals thrown in for splashes of intense color and different foliage. You need to find the right plants for the conditions of your bed - shady/partial sun/full sun, well-drained/wet soil, acidity of soil, condition of soil, and the like.

There are a lot of very hardy perennial plants and bulbs you can use as your base and they work well in most situations: oriental lilies, daylilies, coral bells, liriope, dianthus, coneflowers, lavender, coreopsis, lobelia, rudbeckia, phlox, salvia, etc. Some easy annuals: aster, baby's breath, cornflower, cosmos, dianthus, marigold, scabiosa, zinnias, petunias, dusty miller, coleus, etc.

Talking with a garden center professional is a great suggestion given earlier. Good luck and happy gardening!

You could also try Impatiens and Begonias - and Pansies. If you want bushes, go for Forsythia and [late summer bloomer] Crepe Myrtles. Depends on your planting space and lighting.
