Can we talk Cold Sores?

I really do have a cold sore and there was some good info in my deleted thread.

After every failed attempt at shortening the frequency in which I get them as well as how long they last I am considering going on Valtrex.

Yes cold sores are caused by the Herpes Virus so no need to tip toe around this fact.

I'm on day 8 now. Swelling has gone down, it's still scabby and it still hurts in the spot where the first blister started. The other areas are just red and crusty at this point. With this cold sore I was using Blistex daily, Abreva was used the first few days and it still spread and got huge. A also tried (for the first time) the Orajel two dose tubes which are supposed to work after just one treatment (these did not work).

My cold sores always start in the same spot and spread from there.

Please keep this thread on topic and I will do my best to not allow my demented side from participating in the conversation. :buddies:

Used to get them once in a while, but just don't anymore. Lucky I guess.

genital warts and herpes........ Why are you still single?

You should know that I am happily married (18 years to the same woman). I never got cold sores until after I got married so guess where they came from? Anyhoo, the warts you are referring to was one of my lame attempts at a joke. Cold sores yes, genital warts NO!

At one point I did manage to go three years without a single out-break. No major changes in lifestyle or diet!

Zovirax, seriously ask your doctor about it. I used to use it, and never had a cold sore last more than a few days. The thing is, you have to use it as soon as you feel the cold sore start. I've tried everything out there and this was the only thing that worked for me. Funny thing is since my ex and I divorced 15 years ago, I haven't gotten them. The doctor said they were caused by stress.

I blame stress. Stress is a major part of my life and it doesn't take much to get me completely stressed out. I wish I could just feel happy and calm like most people seem to be able to do.

Zovirax is a topical cream correct?

Just wanted to give everyone an update on my cold sore. After 23 days I'll say that it's 100% healed with just a small visible red area above the lip. This is what I consider a permanent scar since it never really goes away. Now starts the wait for another eruption... I know it's coming and I live in fear!

I had one on my tongue about 12 years ago...painful bugger. Doc gave me FAMVIR. Cleared it right up. Had it come back once few years later, not as bad. YES we all have the herpes virus in us. Probably stress related outbreak.
