Cane Corso (Italian Mastiff) needs home

I have a 1.5 year old cane corso that I absolutely love to death, but he has become more of a job than a pet recently. He has terrible separation anxiety and cannot be kenneled. He has recently become aggressive to outsiders (he isn't fixed). He bit someone today and I know it's only going to get worse from here on out. He can definitely be rehabilitated, but I just don't have the resources to do so. I lead an extremely busy and hectic lifestyle, and I just don't have the time he needs and deserves. I realize now the decision I made to get him in the first place was irresponsible, but I would have never dreamed he'd have these types of problems. I've researched how to break a dog of severe separation anxiety, and I've tried everything I've learned and nothing seems to work. I also have two female pit bulls at home that are a total joy, so I'm thinking another factor is that he is a single-animal kind of guy, and would do much better in a single-dog household. I know my biggest issue with him is I'm not the pack leader in his eyes, and he runs the show, and is totally aware of it! My husband and I are at our wits end and we've made the decision to get rid of him, which is going to break my heart but it's best for all of us. Unfortunately, I know the only person I can give him to is someone that knows what they are taking on and has the means to rehabilitate him so he can have the great life that he deserves.

You should go to the dog forum and read the reasons male dogs should be neutered. Maybe there is a bi!ch in heat somewhere nearby.

This seems to be the local breeder in Calvert County many people buy from and several customers said they will always take their dogs back. Breeders Of The Cane Corso, Puppies, Training and Boarding

I know I should've had him neutered, and everyone I talk to says he is at the age where if he isn't neutered, he will start acting aggressive. I'm sure that would help a bunch..probably call down to well pet clinic and get him scheduled in.

I just put him on the cane corso rescue site..hopefully I can find him a good home. Thanks guys..

Neutering has also worked for millions of wives around the world! :coffee:

You could also post this in the Dogs Forum here as well... Might get a better look. ( I looked and couldn't find a second post in there on this topic).

dog suggestion

I’m in a similar situation. We have a very beautiful Rott. At 18 months he decided he was going to be my forever protector. I was devastated and was ready to give him back to the kennel when he bit someone. (most reputable breeders will take them back, but their fate is dubious). We almost had him put down at that 1st bite. But, after discussions with the vet (who suggested neutering, which we did (no significant change in his attitude), and a doggie psychologist, we decided to keep him. I have every faith he will bite again, given he thinks the person or thing threatened him or me. We now have an assortment of muzzles. Still try to socialize him best we can, but never trust around new people. It’s been 7 years now, and really we consider him a rescue because his fate was likely death. To bad about the crate issue. All my dogs love them. Try putting a blanket over it so it seems more like a cave or “sleeping” place. There is a local rescue for hard to place dogs, Second Hope, that has a dog behaviorist on their team that may be able to give you some advice. Do a google, should be able to find them.
