When you do the canning tomatoes, green beans, etc. from your garden, do you use canning salt, table salt, other salt, or N/A? Post your reason which and why you voted for this salt for your canning project.

I voted N/A because it depends on what the recipe I am using calls for. A recipe for canning is a recipe that should be followed otherwise it can result in disaster. Kind of like baking.

Okay, if you are canning tomatoes, which salt would you use?
Green Beans?
Pickles?

I use Kosher salt. A bit more coarse grained. Not really sure why, all my recipes called for it, so I just used it. I also use it making home fries, seems to taste better.

When I use salt, I use regular table salt. Sometimes I don't use salt at all. The recipe I use says no salt is necessary.

Plain tomatoes whole? Canning salt.
Salsa, marina, spaghetti sauce - what the recipe calls for - usually kosher or regular table salt

Green beans - I freeze them and don't use any salt. I hate canned green beans.

Pickles I use pickling salt, vinegar and garlic and other herbs.

I just looked at my unopened container of pickling salt. Ingredients: salt.

 Why pay more for it?

Thank you! Plain Tomatoes as whole "cut" up to be canned. The Ball Blue Canning Book called for "canning salt" when canning tomatoes.
