Canon Ink or Compatible Ink?

I have a Canon i960 printer and I need to buy ink. The cartridges are very expensive. Has anyone used the compatible type cartridges? They are much cheaper but are they of good quality? Will they damage my printer?

The majority of my printing is common everyday stuff on paper but around the holidays I print photos.

We used the staples brand cartridges all the time in our old canon inkjet.

I used to order the Staples toner cartridges for our printers here at work and they were junk. They didn't last as long as the HP brand. The ones we used in the color printer would always leave a blue or yellow band at the bottom of the page. Ink may be different, but the cheap toner, you get what you pay for
