Cap'n Crunch is staring at your child’s soul

http://www.businessweek.com/article...nch-staring-straight-into-your-child-s-soul#2

Cereal marketers have worked out a sophisticated way to get children to pay attention to kids’ cereal in the grocery aisle: the old “loooook into my eeeeyes” method.

In a study of 65 cereals at 10 grocery stores, researchers at Cornell University found that cereals marketed to kids are often placed at a lower shelf height—and characters on the cereal boxes are typically drawn to make eye contact with children. The report even has a suitably creepy title: “Eyes in the Aisles: Why is Cap’n Crunch Looking Down at My Child?”

He looks down on you doesn't he miggy? :poorbaby:

Yes. I actually avoid the cereal aisle, because I'm a sucker for all those brightly colored fun looking yummy cereal boxes. Fruit Loops and Lucky Charms usually stare into my soul. :jet:

Oh.... is THAT why I want to buy the Mona Lisa every time I see it....

And I got my Cap'n Crunch last week...

BTW, trivia.... if you look at the "Captain's" stripes, he's a commander, not a captain. Captain has 4 stripes.

If I am being good I go for the fiber cereals like Shredded Wheat. Froot loops do not taste as good as they used to, so I stopped buying them - did you hear that the rings all taste the same? I thought they were each flavored like the colored fruit they represented - waaaa what a let down. Capn Crunch gets me too - and whatever it is they now call what used to be Super Sugar Crisp . Now and then I buy a box of corn flakes to reminisce or make some corn flake treats with marshmallows ..... even corn pops don't taste as good they did when I was a child.

Actually this is correct and incorrect. A captain has 4 stripes and a commander 3 but any naval officer in "command" of a ship is caled "captain" regardless of rank.

My daughter (19) only likes Cap'n Crunch sans Berries, how that happened, I'm not sure, but I might have to disown her. I generally dont do the super sugarry ones anymore, I'm sorta hooked on Oat Blenders with the knock off brand of Frosted Wheat being the standby.

About the eyes, who cares, you decide what cereal your kids get, right? And you are teaching them about how marketing works, right? Given those two things, this article means nothing. And if you are not doing them, you most likely wont be reading articles about marketing.

Cap'n Crunch shreds the roof of your mouth.

It sure does but damn does it taste good. I found out I can handle 1 bowl a week before the roof of my mouth and gums have no skin.

I'm so buying a box of Cap'n Crunch the next time I go to the grocery store. :yum:

I will never have that nasty, slimy grit on my teeth again nor will I have the roof of my mouth sore from how abrasive it is when you eat it too fast.

All time worst cereal.

Don't even get me started on the horror that is Crunchberries.
