Does your current system have a seperate amp/pre-amp?

If the salesman is questioning the power handiling capability of your Bose speakers, its hard to believe they will not handle the power of a Pioneer Unit. On the flip side, If you do have a seperate amp with your current system. The Pioneer might not have the power available to drive the Bose speakers, without the amp, and they will sound like garbage. Most new CD/Tuner units however, have a hook-up for an external pre-amp.

If you can find the opearting manual of your current system, it should have the units specs. Reply with:

- speaker handling power
-power output of the CD/tuner unit
-power output of the amp, if installed.

It is already done. I went to Car Tech here in Waldorf as recommended by GM. I needed a GM data something handler that enabled me to run the Alpine stereo with the current amp and Bose Speakers. Going this route cost me $145.00, vs. gutting the current system out.

Believe it or not, this stereo sounds way better than the one I had from the factory. Of course since nothing is ever easy for me, there was one problem. The XM modulator is not working properly, and it was the very last one in stock. They expect to have a shipment on Wednesday, so I will have to bring it back in, for a quick replacement.

so kizz? you went with alpine?
a lil FYI...
the box thing he was talking about for the new radio with the bose speakers......
Most newer radios have "in-line"....(wire to wire)-for radio to speakers, with and without amplifiers...
and "RCA outputs"....(looks like the cables that connect vcr's to tv's)-for direct connect to amplifyers....

basicly for wire to wire, it's like this...
RADIO-------SPEAKERS, thats it
or
RADIO-------AMPLIFYER-------SPEAKERS

for RCA it's like this
RADIO-------AMPLIFYER-------SPEAKERS

unless you have an amplifyer, there is no need to use the RCA cables "BUT"
the connection problemb you were told about isn't at the speaker, it's at the bundle behind the radio (where it connects with dimmer/power/remote"for CD shuttle's"/ect
even if you got an alpine or pioneer the sound quality is gonna be good, just not as good as if you had a "complete" bose system, because the "head unit"(cd player/radio) is coded to reproduce certain frequencies that makes a bose a bose.

what i would have suggested if you wanted to keep the bose quality.....is to get to xm roady 2 or something, (all you gotta do is plug it into the cig lighter and mount the antenna....thats it) it sends the xm frequency directly to the xm modulator and then to the radio.....no wires to hook up at all..
and then go get a 6 or 12 disc CD shuttle and your all set
the roady 2 is like 150$ and a decent shuttle is around 200$

After going nearly 6 months without a fricken CD Player in my truck, because I broke it. I've decided to break down and get a whole new unit.

Today, when I was looking, I realized I'm a completely removed from the names, since it has been ages since I bought one, but from what I remember Adelphi and Pioneer are good names and JVC is a less than desirable system.

I’m looking for stereo that is XM/Satellite radio ready, so that I can get rid of my big box on the dash. Also, a CD player is a must, one at a time is fine, and other than that, nothing else is important, other than I'd like to keep the price under $300. So, for the car stereo enthusiast, please don’t recommend some stereo that cost upteen bucks. It isn't happening.

I was planning on going to Circuit City, since they offer free installation right now.

Any advice is appreciated.
KRACO.. According tom y dad that is the BEST there is BAR none!!. You can get an AM/FM/CB combo even.. WOO HOOO!!

But I agree with Elaine.. I LOVE Alpine for the receiver, Harman Kardon Speakers.. or Bose speakers.

Not entirely what you're getting at, but it sounds to me like the stock amp needs a wire input. I'm guessing they had to install a convertor to get the pre-amp signals that the amp wanted to see. Whether they stepped down the HU output or converted from coax to wire, who knows?

Hey, I am serious. I will have my car another 3 years and want an inexpensive cd player but my 2 front speakers have static on them, maybe crappy wires? I am not sure even what to buy..

Sounds like shot speakers. Very rarely is it a wiring problem. If you find a cd player and speakers that you like, PM me and I'll let you know whether or not they're compatible. More than likely they will be, but some of the newer and higher-end speakers require more power than the cd player can put out.

As others have said, be sure to pick up a wiring harness for your vehicle. Make sure you pick up a mounting kit (specifically for your vehicle) as well.

If you would have read the post above it, you would see that I already got a stereo, your suggestion came too late. :neener:

Thanks Chain. I am not looking for great speakers right now, just enough to get by for a few more years. It just seemed strange that both front speakers got to sounding bad at the same time. I have the plug-in CD player but would like one built in. I'll look into Crutchfields soon.

Don't go to Circuit City

You talked to a salesman, right? I by-pass them and head straight for the "Road Shop." If they're still as friendly as the last time I went up (been awhile), they'll tell what to get and what to stay away from. Of course, you do need to have some idea of what you want before you talk to the installers.
