Advertised in the community calendar. Does anyone know where the funds go? I might have to show up if the funds go where I think they do.

My cynical side says they buy beer with it. My optomistic side says charity. I hope you'll convince me that it's worth my time to show up with a filthy car and $50 tomorrow.

Come to my house tomorrow. I'll wash your car for $40 and the funds will go to the Catt/Otter/Dowhat/Pete golf tournament beer party at my house.

Well, based on my experience, some of the money goes to a charity the slug....I mean selectee's choose. Some goes to the Khaki Ball fund. I wouldn't give them $50 that seems kind of steep. .

It semms that you have no experience in this matter at all. If you don't know, why would you take the time to make a guess? Either get your car washed or not. If you were in the know you would get your car washed. It takes a lot of maone to transfer to Khakis from Dungerees.

If CPO = Navy Chief Petty Officer, then the answer to your question is probably beer.

It also takes a lot of hard work and dedication to advance to the CPO ranks, and even then, some people are unable to do it. I know a lot of good people that weren't able to make the leap dispite 4.0 evaluations and near perfect scores on their exams.

Personally, I sallute all the men and women that are able to make the transition. :yay:

Typically, a percentage of the funds goes to various charities. During my Rites of Passage period, we donated to some funds involving the rebuilding of Laplata (this was soon after the tornado). The rest goes to finance the pinning ceremony and for the khaki ball. Believe me, these events are very expensive and the CPO mess still generally has to come out of pocket to cover some of it. None of the money raised is used towards uniforms. Each selectee gets a clothing allowance, it was about a grand when I made chief, but the uniforms cost much more than that if you get a full seabag.

Congratulations to the selectees, by the way.

Times change. Only $600 when I made it, but then I'm an old fart.

Dear Turtlemoron,

I would say my guess was correct. You see I had to "guess" because when I was initiated a Chief was 1994 at a different base. Having served 9 years in the CPO ranks (thats 9 initiation seasons) I would have to say I have enough "in the know" to buy you a nice cool 2 liter bottle of STFU.

As far as it taking alot of "maone" I am going to assume you mean "money" and you could not be more wrong. It doesn't cost a dime to make CPO, it takes intelligence, capability, reason, integrity, and dedication. None of those things cost a penny.

If by some chance you are a slug I would LOVE to meet you and sign your book. PM me and I will give you directions on how to find me. :yay:
