Carsick Kitten!

We're all mad here.
Last July I took in Bailey, a feral kitten. He is about five months old (just an estimate), has been neutered, is up to date on all his vaccinations, and is in great overall health.

The problem is that I go to school at the University of Maryland and live in Laurel. On weekends I like to go down to Calvert to visit my family/friends and I bring Bailey with me. The first several times I took Bailey in his carrier to different places he was fine, but recently he has been throwing up. Is there really anything I can do about this asides from trying to drive more gently? I've heard of medications for cats with this problem, but I'm pretty sure that's for the occasional vet visit! TIA!

My sister takes her cat to the beach with her several times during the year and he gets carsick so the vet gives her Valium to give to him for the car trips to and from OC. Works well, kitty stays relaxed, no blown chow for sis to clean up.

YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO TRY NOT FEEDING A FEW HOURS BEFORE HAND AND LOTS OF FRESH AIR DURING THE RIDE.
(MAKE SURE THE WINDOWS ARE UP FIRST :yay:)

My Siamese was fine in the car when he was a baby but as he got older he started getting really carsick. I used to travel back and forth between VA and MD every weekend. I do not give him any food or water for at least 4 hours prior to the trip and I use travel anxiety medicine that is all natural just for pets. I get it from work, it's in a green little box, works wonders. Check any pet stores. Every now and then he may vomit just once but after the one time he sleeps the rest of the way. Before he would have the runs and vomit the entire trip.

Use somebody else's car

Fortunately, he just pukes in his carrier! It's still pretty gross and I have to pull off to clean it up!

This weekend he did just fine- I think it was a combination of not feeding him beforehand (I used to give him treats for getting in the carrier) and driving a little more smoothly.

Attached is a pic of him. Not quite sure what type of cat he is, but I'm thinking he may be part maine coon- he is getting BIG.
