Bio Spot is also one to stay waaaaay away from.

Why?

I love:

Pet Shed - Pet Supplies at Discount Prices!
or
Dog supply, Pet meds, Pet medication, Pet medicine at Equine-Mega-Store online pet supply store

Both are VERY reasonable and based out of Australia. I use Revolution for our guys and love it. Pixigirl is right you can purchase them OTC now too, but they were at one point only through your vet. Avantage, Frontline, Revolution and Advantix are all great products for fleas. They are all pestisides and there will always be a critter out there to have a bad reaction, I don't doubt that, but I have NEVER heard the number of horror stories that I have heard with Hartz :(

You're freaking awsome! :buddies:

Why do Frontline and flea collars? I hate flea collars.

Why not? Its not going to make anything worse.

GQ, go to Petco, Southern States or your vet and get some Frontline. It's more expensive than the off the shelf crap but it works. One tube costs $10-$15 depending where you get it from but lasts up to 3 months for fleas and it really works.

I use advantage here for cats and smalld dogs..I charge $5 per month dosage...I don't want customers bringing fleas to me with every grooming so I would rather give them a good deal then for me to have to deal with the fleas...I am out now but that is the usual charge

:blushing:Thank you :)

Another way to save if you are comfortable and familiar with using a syringe is to buy big and dose yourself. For example, if you purchase the largest dog dose for 34.95 (3 month supply) instead of the cat dose for 29.95 (3 month supply) for one cat you could get 8 doses out of one large dog tube!!!! The largest dog tube is 4.02 ml, a cat only gets .5 ml - so you would get 24 doses in a 3 month supply!! This is a great savings for a multi pet home. I had always done this with Frontline, but when we started fostering with PAWS I was thrilled to find out you can also do this with Revolution (this also works with Advantage) :)

That shouldn't be the case unless you mean they gave the wrong doses in the wrong packages because these are the same formulas. Even rabbit, guinea pig and rat owners and rescues use the proper dosing of the cat and dog products to deal with fleas and mites. Many of original OTC products will specifically state that these are not the same products and what is for dogs can not be used for cats, could you be thinking of one of these and not Frontline?

All I know is that we had to remove all of the cat product from the shelves in the store where I worked.

:yeahthat: Frontline for cats and dogs is the same exact product. One of the vets I use to work for use to use it on himself before he went camping.

Frontline is, but I'm not sure all are. Or maybe they are all now, but I know Bio Spot used to be different. The label on the dog packaging said "DO NOT APPLY ON CATS."

Large dog advantage does 10 dogs per tube..so a 4 tube package does 40 cats..

You're right. I remember some of them saying that. And GQ, if you're using a good topical a flea collar isn't needed. I haven't used them since they came out with Frontline.

Tea tree oil and mint are natural flea replents. I use those types of shampoos though the cats don't need many baths unless they get into something. If one of the animals in your house has fleas they all have fleas. MK brought me a kitten from VA Beach that was infested and before we could even treat her and after a good bath she infested the other cats. I typically only treat the dog and boy cat since they are the only ones that go outside. The 3 other girl cats had to be treated when all was said and done.

I can't find anything related to any Frontline mixup online (again not to say it couldn't have happen, but perhaps with the incorrect dosing.)If you still work there I would be curious what info they were given, such as who contacted them.

Okay - wait, just found this site - Counterfeit Advantage and Frontline - it looks like people were purchasing the flea products from overseas (like the two links I posted) and reselling them (after they relabeled them - these are the "counterfeit" flea products you hear of.) There were problems with incorrect labeling for dosing which led to problems. BUT this page also says that Merial could not provide any documented cases of this - so who knows....
Because I dose my own critters I'm not too concerned about incorrect doses due to packaging as long as I'm getting the same formula :)
