Cat Food consensus

Hello, I have two, two year old male cats. One is a Siamese/Tuxedo mix (Norman) and the other is a short hair Ragdoll (Winston). Anyway, I have been living with my family who also has a cat, a Maine Coon (Damien). He is on a strict diet of the Purina O.N.E Urinary Tract formula since his near death experience with crystals a few years back. With conflicting schedules of everyone in the household we decided just to use one cat food, Damien's cat food and all cats can share. Over the past few months Norman (who is a constant grazer, and that will change when he his put on a schedule) has ballooned from 9 lbs. to nearly 16 lbs since January. I know in part is some of my fault for allowing his grazing (parents insisted Damien shall have food whenever he wants and to leave a bowl out) and then I learned from the Vet that special formulas such as the one Damien is on is very high in fat.

Now that I am getting my own house I have started doing research on cat foods to help me decide on what is best for my boys. I have read that in fact canned foods are best for cats (less fat and more nutritional) with perhaps a small bowl of dry to coincide the meal during the day.

So my question is to everyone is what do you feed your cats, how do you feed and what food do you recommend? I plan on finding a formula for adult indoor cats, that provides both canned and dry food, that doesn't cost a fortune but isn't necessarily known as a "grocery brand". Any help or suggestions would be great, also I am not any good when it comes to adding pictures, so if someone could tell me how to post a picture, I would like to show off the boys =)

My kitties eat the Iams weight/hairball control formula dry food and get Iams squishy food as a special treat every once in a while. Eddie grazes all day and is a big fatty. Ruby only eats when she's hungry. No hairballs. :yay:

I have heard good things about Iams. My parents feed their Pomeranians Iam's small breed dog food, maybe I will check them out. So far I have been lucky in the hairball department.

My kitty cat eats the Science Diet kitten formula. I would feed him better, but the availability of quality pet food in my town is next to nil. I feed my dog Merrick, but they only offer wet cat food. The kitty just laps up all the liquid and ignores the food. He likes to crunch.

We have done a lot of research on cat food and found this brand at PETCO its Castor and Pollux its has not fillers or by products in it. We have switched all of our animals to it and they all love it. Our cat was gaining weight and now with this brand you don't have to feed them as much and they love it.

I work at Petco and have noticed that we have started getting that in a lot more after the recall. We sell out of it quickly and always have to reorder. I assume thats a good sign :yay:

Claudia eats DeliCat dry food from the grocery store. Anything else, she barfs back up, and she won't even go near canned cat food.

She is 13, but you'd never know it - you'd think she was a much younger cat. :yay:

Here's my pretty girl:

My two cats eat Purina (the one for all ages). They each get about 1/2 c. in the morning and the same at night. Every few days, I'll split a can of Friskies between them as a treat.

Lets see, my adult cats, Grace, Tasha, Nemo, Lucy and Magic all get Iams hairball control dry and Friskies wet once a day. The Iams they have to graze on all day. My kitten,Boogers, gets Iams kitten dry and Friskies wet once a day. He also gets dry to graze on all day. The only problem is keeping Nemo (the cow) from eating the kitten food. He already weighs 16.5 lbs! :faint:

As soon as the kitten is old enough to eat adult food Nemo is going on a severe diet!

This is Nemo

Oh my goodness he is huge lol, he is right up there with Norman. I swear if Norman ever knew there was a day his mom didn't realize they were almost out of cat food he probably would have keeled over from a heart attack.

I found Norman when he was approximately a month old when I was living in North Carolina, a friend had brought him to the apartment. My friend said he was coming to his house looking for food. I took one look at the kitten and knew he was in grave danger so I rushed him to the vet, where he had severe upper respiratory infection. He still has occasional outbreaks from stress every so often. I was living on Lake Norman at the time, hence his name =) And Winston I found while working at a small pet shop in Virginia last year. For some reason they said he had a skin condition and couldn't sell him but yet treated him like dirt, the entire year I never saw anything wrong with him other then he was skinny because he was stuck in a 2X2 cage and never got let out for proper muscle exercise. So I quit the job and took the cat with me :yay: I named him Winston after Winston Churchill, I like history and Winston seems like a classy cat. He even plays fetch.
