cat injury question

How is she today? Is she typically a house cat? I'd not let her out until you're sure she's okay. Sometimes kitties will wander off a bit and hide out when they don't feel well.

Please do not use peroxide on a cats wound ( or any wounds over 1 hour old)....damages tissue and healthy red blood cells!!

Peroxide was the first thing to come to mind. I probably shouldn't have just blurted that out. Of course there are certain animal-specific antibiotic creams; some of which are available at the pet store or Wally-Mart.

Peroxide doesn't damage red blood cells. It destroys them.
I saw this on one of those educational shows on Discovery Channel.

Whaddya know? I remembered something useful from TV.

Betadine (iodine) is not really good for cats...cant even use it for bathing for ringworm like you would a dog or horse...I like Nolvasan....

It's fine if you dilute it and is much better than peroxide.

Peroxide also is like Ipecac, it causes dogs and cats to :barf:

Yes it applies to dogs and humans as well. The best thing to use is betadine to clean any wound.

WOW! I never knew that.
What about toothpaste with peroxide in it?
Also, I used to knew someone whose dentist told him to brush his teeth and gums w/ peroxide to help with inflamation of his gums. Wonder if he has any teeth- or gums left!
Seriously, I had never heard this before. Thanks!

I'm assuming he doesn't have any open wounds in his mouth. If not, he's fine.

So what is Nolvosan? Is it available OTC? I should keep that and/or betadine on hand for any emergencies.

I lost touch with this guy many years ago. I just recall he had a lot of problems with his gums and wanted to avoid surgery. I cannot stand the toothpaste w/ peroxide- it gave me cold sores!
