Cat litter opinions..

Does my butt look big?
So now that I have :cough: cats in the house I need to switch litter. I have always just gone with cheap litter in the cattery and picked daily and changed to the bottom and chloroxed about every 5-7 days...Now that they are in the house including 3 whole males :faint: (NO sprayers I bred those out years ago thank god) I need some "good" litter. I have been picking boxes every several times a day...Peeps in and out said they can not smell them but I want to make sure. So I sent kiddo out tonight to get "worlds best cat litter" $21 for 17 lbs...more then what I am used to spending..But I am not paying the $1000+ heating bill yearly in the cattery anymore so I can afford good litter..and a bag of "the blue granuals" I have tidy cat scoopable in there now..what do you all use? Any pros or cons? TVM

I used to get the scoopable kind, but I wasn't good at scooping every day. Now I get the cheap kind ($3 for 25 lbs) and just change it every few days. :yay:

I just bought that new Breeze System from Tidy cats and it works really well! You change the pee pads in the bottom where the pee collects and scoop the poops and it is hard and dry when you scoop it and it doesn't stick to the litter. The litter lasts a long time and the pads last about a week with as many cats that I have. I just bought a second one because I like the first one so much. If you go to Tidy Cats® brand Cat Litter - Home Page you can print out a 10.00 coupon on the kit.

Here's the link for the Breeze.

I thought about trying that, but our girls are "big girls" and they need a big box. We use one of the large plastic under-the-bed storage boxes and they still think they are inside the box when they are hanging over every now and then. Oh well, you gotta love them!!

Where are my pants?
I really like the Tidy Cats crystals. We have five cats, and we found that the clay litter just wasn't cutting it. The crystals REALLY keep down the smell; and while they're not quite as absorbent as the clay, we change it often enough that it isn't really a problem. The biggest bonus is that it doesn't get tracked around like the clay stuff.

DESIGNER CATBOX Cat Litter Box Chest Furniture Cover BK - eBay (item 270291278788 end time Oct-29-08 10:28:22 PDT)

I got two of these for the new living room...I have just covered boxes in the othe rooms. She got me the Worlds best but Walmart was out of the crystals. I like the tidy cat scoopable..the Spynxes dig to china and spread litter all over the place..the boys in cages are very neat and tidy anyway and there are trays under the cage for loose litter...Will let you know...

Teach them to go outside. I can't stand the smell of cat litter. I can pick it up when I enter a home. Our cat is indoor/outdoor, but always goes outdoors unless trapped inside and forced to go in the litter box, which generally only happens in the winter. Give them a cat door to go outside if you can.

That will NEVER happenn :smoochy: I also don't let my small dogs out to go either  You would LOVE my house...:otter:

PS I just read your comment to daughter and even she busted out laughing..who would let a $1000-$1500 cat out to get hit by a car, catch a disease, run off or another million other things

Where do the small dogs poop?

I haven't been to your house since the unfortunate Tipper tail in the car door issue. I tried just going across the street to Petco with Rassie for the nail trim (closer and she has anxiety) and she crapped on the floor there. :barf: I had to clean it up and, lets just say, I didn't too real well with that. We are using a dremel tool on her nails now. She doesn't mind it at all. Getting in the car and travelling is a big deal to her. She doesn't like it much. Or anyplace new. I have to drug her with 1.0 mg. of Xanex to take her to the vet. Poor old girl.

They are paper trained .....they go on papers in the grooming room when I am not working..Some dogs just get so stressed going places...Its a shame you have to drug her for that stuff...my dogs go ape shiat to go places..they see me getting my shoes on and my purse and they BEG to go..

We rescused her a year ago this past Wednesday and she was 8 when we got her. She's perfect...except the anxiety. 72 pounds crawled on my lap at the vet a few weeks ago. It was funny, kind of. We don't have much background on her, but she is a great dog. I don't drug her if I just take her out for a ride. She's weird. I can have the top down or windows open. She doesn't even stick her head out. Just lays down on the passenger seat.

The only litter I use is Fresh Step Clumping. Even when I had my own rescue that's still all I ever used. I would have up to 13 cats in the cattery and no one would have known unless I invited them down to see the kitties.

Its the best litter for clumping the urine too. The clumps don't break up when you scoop...no matter how big the clumps are.

BTW~ 40lb containers at BJ's are no more than $13.00 ea.

I used to use that too but was easily using well over 80 lbs every two weeks. It got expensive. That is why I tried the new thing. It seems to keep the order down just as well and may even be more cost efficient. This is still a test though.

That is interesting..I would be leary about the color...I have a male that is almost white (flame lynx point). I know from showing whites you need to stay with an almost white litter with them or they stained. I have used the pine too in the cattery (pine pellet) and hated it..turned to saw dust then tracked all over..

It doesn't rub off, at least it didn't on Boogers and he is mostly white.

I finally was able to go to the site..very interesting..do you know the deminsions of the box?? How much is the set up price per box? I need at least 10 boxes...So you found this set up cheaper then the scoopable..I am going to try several and then follow through with one choice...

I will say the Worlds best is not impressing me with the size of the bag for the price :faint:
