We adpoted a male cat (1yr old?) from the rescue a few months ago as a companion for our 6 yr old male cat. They seem to get along fine with the occational younger cat wanting to play when older cat doesn't. lol

Anyhow, the new cat has started using the kitchen floor to poo on. He only does it maybe once or twice a week, I would perfer not at all. We do have 2 litter boxes that are kept clean. Any suggestions as to why he is doing this?

Are they deliberate "plunkies" or is it possible they are being 'kicked out' when he buries them? Or, maybe he's doing it for attention he's not getting from the older cat?

They are deliberate plunkies. Litter boxes are near the foyer, kitchen is in plain view 20ft away. I don't know what kinda attention he trying to get by doing that, not good attention from us. :)

Claudia, the old girl, will crap on the floor by the litterbox sometimes. She does this because the baby asshat waits until she gets in the litterbox (it's covered), then menaces her when she can't get away.

So:

Do you have a covered litterbox and a menacing co-kitty?

We had an old cat that would hide in the closet to pee. Basically, same reason - the other cats terrorized her when she used the litterbox.

My one cat Cleo will go in the bathtub right down the drain if you forget to clean her box she shares with another cat at least you can wash it down the drain.

We just bought one of those new litter boxes that used little hard pellets and what looks like a pampers under the litter in a tray. The cat pees on the stuff and it goes through to the pad , the poo dosnt you have to scope it out of the box. So far Cleo is the only one using it the other cat still uses the dirt box . Not sure if it works any better but it was something new to try , just got to make sure the poo is removed or it kinda sets there. They claim it dosnt smell , belive me it does it dosnt have a cover so the poor girl has no privacy

Maybe it's like "spraying." Is it possible to put the new cat's box somewhere out of sight of the older one?.....another room; or in a closet?
Then deliberately put the younger cat in that box. Perhaps eventually he'll get the hint, 'OH.....THIS is my litterbox.'

Some cats cannot stand the scented litter, they have many more sensors that we do. What smells pleasant to us is overpowering to them.We have a cat that would not use the litterbox because of this. We changed to unscented and now have no problem.

Adopt me please !
My new gal seems to stand IN the litter box and poke her butt just over the edge and poops - and although she doesn't do this ALL the time, it was enough that I bought her a BIGGER litter box. Now she does it less often over the edge, but next I think I need a covered box IF she will use that? Some won't.

Is there ANY solution for the first 30 minutes after a cat poops so the whole HOUSE doesn't have to smell like cat poop? (aside from it being immediately scooped and thrown away)
