Cat Scratchers

Okay, my cats use the cardboard type scratchers which is wonderful. Problem is, they go through these things so fast. I usually keep 3 out at a time. I got the Emery Cat which was really great for a week. See the picture.

Question is, are there any scratchers out there that last longer beside the carpet ones? My cats won't use them.

Oh my mine usually last MONTHS - looks like you have a cat that likes to dig vigorously in the same spot? Yikes.

Ours love the cardboard ones too, so we decided to try the emery one. The turned their noses up at it. It is sitting in the sunroom not being used. :ohwell:

Just had a thought - wonder if sisal wrapped around a 2x6 about 2 feet long would last longer? Would mimic the size/shape of the typical flat cardboard scratchers.

Yes the sisal rope kind definetly lasts longer and you can buy your own rope and make a customized one for your kitties.

We actually got one of these for our pair. They love it.

All the posts are wrapped in rope so they can climb and scratch.

I like that. I picked on up the other day that goes floor to ceiling, doesn't have the boxes though.

I'm going to try the rope, I'm just glad they don't dig into my furniture like that. They don't even touch the furniture.

I have the cheapo one I bought at WalMart over a year ago (scratching board) The superkat superscratcher which comes complete with catnip. Kitty scratches a bit, goes into a coma, and falls asleep on the board. I do have one chair he likes to scratch on. It's in the game room and it's not something we ever use. It still looks good and is better (to me) than a fancy cat tower which I've had in the past.

I cherish the scratches my kitties have done in the past...a precious antique that kitty made antiquier, and a four post bed that now has "personality". Those kitties have been long gone, but I still have the memories...and the evidence. Priceless.

I still like watching my current pass out on the scratching board. Catnip...

C'I have it??

MY cat has torn up one arm on my loveseat and the headrest and arms of my LEATHER recliner, and various other walls, etc.

Have you tryed the post wrapped with rope? Our cats seem to like them and they last awhile too.

The rope ones do last a long time .If they start getting fuzzy(frayed) I take a propane torch to them. This burns the loose fibers away and scratching posts are usable again for a second go round. Be careful that you don't keep the flame in one place for to long, you could set the rope on fire.

Wouldn't a Bic lighter be a liiittle safer??

Catnip puts them to sleep? Really? Our big guy gets very agressive and horny when he starts huffing the nip. He humps everything in sight even though he's deballed. The little girl just gets silly. We have pretty much had to just say 'No" to the evil weed, nip.

Out of 4 cats, only one of mine is affected by catnip, and that's only for a few minutes.

Is that your kitty in your avatar??? I love that pic!! It looks just like our "big" girl!

Not my kitty, but I love that picture. This is my big guy, he can only mange to get himself on the first shelf of the cat tree and then he can only sit on it, to big to lie down. Not quite sure how much he weighs.
