Cat Urine on Leather Chairs...HELP!

Hello there,

We recently moved into a new house with our three cats. I have 2 vintage leather chairs that were given to me by my parents as an early inheritance. There was much begging involved :) Well, within two weeks of being in our new house, I found that one of our cats (I can't figure out which one) had peed on both of the leather chairs. Thankfully the leather is black and it didn't stain, but I can't get rid of the odor! My parents are coming in two weeks for a visit and of course are looking forward to seeing their chairs, but I need to get rid of the smell asap! I have tried 'Nature's Miracle' from Petco and it did not help at all. I have looked all over online for a 'miracle' solution and there is one recipe that calls for 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed with baking soda and dish soap. I am a little hesitant because of the peroxide.
Has anyone had an luck in this kind of situation? Is there a place in the area that may be able to apply some sort of treatment?
Your answers are much appreciated!
Thx.

Thats the recipe the Vet gave us when our dog Kali was sprayed by a skunk.

It worked like a charm!

I'm thinking your issue isn't the leather but the padding underneath it.

You can clean the leather all you want, but if there is pee soaked padding underneath you'll never get rid of the smell.

You may have to get the chairs re-upholstered to get rid of the smell.

:yeahthat:

Without seeing the chairs, I have do idea of the answer to my next question.

How hard would it be for you to remove the seat upholstery, replace the padding underneath and then re-attatch the original leather seat?

Actually, I tried to remove the padding when it first happened thinking of course that I needed to get rid of the odor from there as well. The only thing is that the padding is sewn into place by 4 buttons (think of buttons in middle of pillows) on the seat. It would require someone to cut all of it out and then replace it, which is almost where I am at. I have no idea if there is a reputable upholstery business in the area. My parents just reupholstered the chairs 2 years ago for $3000.00 because the leather was 30 years old. I am just devasted....

You may want to try Schoenbauer Furniture Service in Charlotte Hall. I've seen some of their work and it looks great but haven't used them myself. Not sure how much it will cost but maybe you could bring one chair (depending on size) to them for an estimate. If it's too big maybe a good picture would do. They list free estimates so worth a shot. Phone number is Toll Free: 800.955.7603 Local: 301.884.3011. There are plastic chairs. Plastic or no, they function and work AS a chair.

On the other hand, there is no such thing as plastic flowers. There is plastic that looks like a flower but, it in no way, shape or form functions as a flower. It simply looks, at a great distance, like a flower.

To further the point, is 'sex' with a plastic blow up doll actually 'sex' given the fact that it is in no way, shape or form anything like sex with a person other than a vaguely similar appearance? It may serve some purpose but, it is nothing like the real thing.

Are you saying that plastic cats functions as a real cat?

As far as plastic sex, I have no first hand knowledge but I have been told that plastic doesn't get soft after some IPA.

Of course not. Plastic cats actually serve a purpose. Door stop, paper weight, hat rack, bath tub toy etc.

It has NOTHING to do with IPA! DBSVS!
