CCPS- First day of school confusion

I was looking at the Patuxent Elementary and Appeal Elementary websites to get supply list so during the summer, I can stock up on them before the mad rush happens in the Fall. I noticed that Appeal Elementary has on their website that the first day of school is Aug 20th while Patuxent Elementary as well as the CCPS website has the first day as Aug 25th.

I emailed Appeal to let them know about the discrepancy.

...

Thank you for bringing this discrepancy to my attention! We will correct it right away! We will be starting on the 25th with the other schools. Sincerely, Bernadette Stephenson

Just a guess, but I'd say elementary students will need paper and pencils

I wish it were that simple. They have to have certain type of scissors, post it notes, 3x5 cards, certain colors of folders with or without pockets and/or center clips, etc. Certain brands are acceptable (although I'm sure if you bought otherwise, they use it). They just make a point to say that "only this type of scissors is acceptable." What stinks is that you buy it and then it goes into the community pile for everyone to use. My son got a satin Chinese bag (which I'm sure was suppose to be a clutch purse) to use as a pencil holder this year.

And that is why I write my kids names on everything regardless of what they say. When my son was in first grade they said PLASTIC folders so I went out and bought the 7 or 8 folders and paid .88 cents for them. He ended up coming home with PAPER folders someone else bought for .10 cents. Paper folders are a waste and need to be replaced throughout the year. Plastic will last all year.

This year I was suppose to by those wipe off markers, red pens and post its... I bought none of those things.

Great job! You sure are a rare breed...

I know. :diva: I've even started compiling my Christmas list. I've always been the type to get stuff done NOW instead of waiting until the last minute.

While you're at it, please get the supplies for my kids, too. TIA!

Ah, yes - the indoctrination into socialism begins in elementary school. I still labeled all my son's things with his name even though the lists said not to.

I was very surprised this year, I don't remember how much looseleaf I sent in at the beginning of school, but kiddo came home with like 3 unopened packs of looseleaf yesterday. She said that it was left over and all the kids got 3 packs. That had never happened before...

Did you see the list for next year... Where you can buy it now for like $19?

:yeahthat: All the ones my son had to use began to look like crap quickly. His teacher was pretty good about replacing them as needed but there was a few that needed to be taped together until they got replaced.

I decided to do that thing where the school buys the supplies for you this year (atleast with the oldest boy).

I always think about doing that but never have.

We had to buy a couple spiral notebooks and those blk/white composition books. Son came home and they only used less than 10 pages in each. What a waste.

I'm doing that for my oldest for 3rd grade. I will still have to buy stuff for the youngest though.
