Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is participating in the St. Mary’s City annual Maryland Day Celebration on March 23. Each year, a fourth-grade student is selected through an essay contest to represent the school system and Charles County at the celebration. This year, students must submit a video essay response through Twitter in response to the prompt “Why is Charles County a great place to live?”
Video submissions must be 140 seconds or less, and students may only submit one entry. Students interested in submitting a video for the contest can request assistance from their class or reading resource teachers.
All submissions should be sent as a direct message to the CCPS social studies department Twitter account, @ccps_ss. Deadline for submissions is 8 a.m. Feb. 14. The contest is only open to fourth-grade students.
A panel of judges from the CCPS Department of Instruction will review all submissions for content, delivery and mechanics, and select the finalist. In their submission, students should focus on the prompt and include a compelling response, ensure the video is clear and that they can be heard, and follow the 140-second submission requirement.
The Maryland Day Celebration program features a flag ceremony, in which the finalist will present the Charles County flag before a podium of dignitaries.
