Dang, Dennis was 73. For some reason I thought he was my age.
I keep seeing these obits, and more specifically, their ages. He was 73. I'm 71. While I have no intention of dropping dead in the next 2 years, it still makes you think.

Dennis the Menace.

He was my idol. I was the Dennis of our NOVA neighborhood in the late 60s.

RIP Pope. Now I hope they have somebody in line that will be a quick choice. I don't want 3 weeks of watching a chimney for white smoke. And why does it have to be white but that is another rant.
After Pope Francis, I just wish for no socialist theologians.

Watching the news, they’re talking about the significance of him passing on Easter.

I’m waiting for someone to speculate on whether he’ll rise in three days.

The paper ballots are burned signifying the election is over. Paper apparently burns white.

Specific chemical mixtures are used to produce white or black smoke. Black smoke, signaling no pope elected, is made with potassium perchlorate, anthracene (from coal tar), and sulfur. White smoke, indicating a new pope has been chosen, is produced with potassium chlorate, lactose, and chloroform resin.

The white smoke signifies that a vote of over 2/3 was achieved thereby a new pope has been elected. If there is not a 2/3 majority the ballots are also burned but the smoke is black.

Here is more info than you need: During the 2013 conclave that led to the election of Pope Francis, the black smoke was produced using a mixture of potassium perchlorate, anthracene (a component of coal tar) and sulfur. The conclave used a combination of potassium chlorate, lactose, and chloroform resin to create the white smoke.
