NASCAR finds cheating after Nationwide race - Racing - SI.com

"In our post-race inspection -- yesterday was the day we were going to chassis dyno cars -- our inspectors discovered some shims that were placed on the gas pedal stop," Robin Pemberton, vice president of competition for NASCAR, said Sunday. "It was magnets that were about a quarter-inch thick that prevented the accelerator from going 100 percent wide open.

"The intention was to manipulate the numbers that we get when we get our information and data off the dyno."

Good for them for trying. They got caught though.

The Toyota horsepower limitation is :bs:.

That'd be like NHRA telling Tony Schumacher he can only run one blower so he gets less horsepower because he's winning too much.

That'd be like NFL making the Patriots sideline Tom Brady for a third-string QB because they're winning too much.

That'd be like MLB making the Yankees sideline A-Rod because he's hitting too many Homeruns.

Completely arrogant move by NASCAR. Jack Roush and Rick Hendrick won just about every race last year, didn't hear them :bawl: and :tantrum like :baby: then. I'm sick and tired of these crybaby owners in NASCAR.

I long for the old days when you were really racing one brand against another. NASCAR has tried so hard to level the field that luck on the track is almost more meaningful than the car.

NHRA tried that 30 years ago in PS, and they realized it was pointless. Eventually, they gave up. Pro Stock is now highly competitive, and their Pro Stock races are amazing side-by-side races.

Roush-Fenway has a new motor/car package with Carl Edwards that they've run at Pocono and Michigan. Carl's undefeated with that package. I don't see them taking anything away from Carl.

If NASCAR's gonna do this limiting horsepower crap, they need to be consistent. :smack:

I'm so sick of Jack Roush and Rick Hendrick :bawl::bawl::bawl: when their cars aren't winning every race in every division of NASCAR.

Like I said, the very people who are complaining now won more than half the races last year. They thought everything was fair then. Toyota didn't cry to NASCAR, instead they decided they needed to improve, and they did just to get punished for beating the big two.

Yep, I wish they went back to whatever you can fit under the hood... let the driver control the HP of the car with the pedal.

If you can get 1000HP and let it run - great :yay: If you can run the race and win with 500HP - great :yay: Let the driver drive the car and the teams figure out what is the best way to get their car to the top.

Who was it that said, "It's our job to cheat." "It's their job to catch us." (?)

Before NASCAR stepped in and limited Toyota's horsepower, nobody was cheating. Toyota had all the same engine specs as the other manufacturers, then Wildthing won a bunch of races and Toyota got punished.

Dodge ran the same numbers on the dyno, and NASCAR didn't take anything away from them.

Who took the Stock out of Stock Car Racing.

Remember the days you could go to the dealer and buy the same car you saw racing last week-end?

They need to bring those days back.

1000 minimum production cars to enter your car on the track. Other than safety issues, nets, belts, rollbars, must be identical to the car you're selling. THAT would bring the fun back into NASCAR.. right now there's too much money, too much 'fairness'..

Are you on aps account or he on yours?

If you consider going in slow circles fun, might I suggest you watch the merry go round at the local carnivals. Or maybe take in an open wheel race at a road course, or maybe a rally car race. :lmao:

Me, I prefer cars that go fast. Leave the "stock" on the showroom floor. :yay:

I don't consider 'circles' fun at all. I just thought it was more interesting to watch than watching grass grow when they raced real cars. Cars you could actually go to the dealership and touch, even take for a test drive, BUY if you wanted to.

IF i watch racing I prefer to watch road racing. Formula 1.. At least they race on roads, and not tracks made to be capable of high speeds.

Even bike racing, Moto GP ANYthing but NASCAR.. or TRUCK racing.. or anything else where they are trying to convince someone to buy a Ford because "..look how we are kicking ass in our "ford"."

I find it funny that the Chevy Ford competition is still alive and well in the hearts of many NASCAR fans, when there is no difference other than a sticker or two between either car.

And if STOCK is to be left on the showroom floor, than really, they should take STOCK out of the NASCAR name. maybe the 'S' shoudl stand for.. Same As Everyone Else's on the Track.

Bob, with all due respect.....let any of the open car, stockcar racers, strap in a Top Fuel car (either), and they will will learn what power and control is, this side of an F18...

Actually Funny Cars are much harder to "control", the Dragsters are pretty much point and shoot. What seperates the best Top Fuel Dragster drivers from the rest is their ability after a run to relate info the computers don't pick up to the crew what the car was doing.

Why does everybody think that no american company can manufacture a car capable of a sustained 200+ mph?

Andy do you specifically only root for the front-runners? Between Busch and Schumacher, do you also root for the Patriots, Yankees, Red Wings and Lakers?

And also, don't hate on that Dixon/LaHaie Miller Lite dragster. Before your boy bought Allen Johnson, they couldn't even touch them. 2002 and 2003 that team was lethal.
