Fans of pop superstar Cher flew into a panic on Monday when a Twitter hashtag related to Margaret Thatcher led them to think their singing idol had died.

The former U.K. Prime Minister passed away on Monday after suffering a stroke, and a topic titled #nowthatchersdead began circulating on the social networking website.

However, fans of Cher misread the title and began flooding the forum with tributes to Cher.

British funnyman Ricky Gervais became aware of the massive mix-up and tried to clarify the confusion for his followers, writing, “Some people are in a frenzy over the hashtag #nowthatchersdead. It’s ‘Now Thatcher’s dead’. Not, ‘Now that Cher’s dead’. Just sayin’.”
