Reading this kind of bums me out. We are looking for a house in southern Maryland and our search turned to CRE. I've read things such as "It's a terrible place!" and also "It's a great place!" But these crimes some have talked about are said to be committed by kids. Question. If kids are the main issue behind the crimes, then how is Patuxent High School such a good school? Or have I been mislead?

Also, much mention has been made about the HOA. Everywhere we looked there have been HOA dues. Another question. What are the HOA dues in CRE?

You are going to find that every place you look at are going to have the same problems. This place has over 4,000 homes so yeah CRE is going to have some problems. Are there problems here that are not elsewhere? NOPE!!
I been here for 9 years and for the most part I liked it! Do I want to move? yeah. But my reason is that the family business in based out of Owings and we want to be closer to there. We need land for a warehouse.
My neighbors had been good for the most part. But having good neighbors can make a big difference! My home has never been broken into! I wort thing that has happen to us is that my son's bike came up stolen! but, I blame him for leaving it in the front yard over night!
As far as the HOA goes. Do I like them NO! Do I think the money is being wasted and mismanaged? Yeah! I have seen many other community that has better amenities that pay just as much or less. I think some of these amenities are not being used to the best potential! Like the lake! I don't understand what they don't have paddle boats and row boats for rental. This could bring in money for the lake itself! Their are so many other things that the BOD could do to bring in money! I know, if I feel like I am getting something out of it I would not beatch about the dues! I guess that is why many of us complain about the HOA! It is because we don't feel that we are getting anything out of it. We are paying for something we don't see getting done. I do have to say there are tons of roads in here that are just plain horrible to drive on. My street alone is a headache. They will send some truck here to drop gravel stuff to roll and pack down but no more than 2 weeks later it's all messed up again. I think it is a waste of money. They need to figure out what streets they spend the most money on or these temp fix and so something else. Like pave the darn thing, so it will last longer than 2 weeks. I drive super slow on my street and I still feel like a Mexican jumping bean in my car!

You just have to weight out the pros against the cons!

Thanks for the info on CRE

Thanks for all the info on CRE. I'm sure it's a community like and other with good and bad.
However, after taking a drive out there to look at a couple properties, we've decided to pass and stay in St. Mary's. The streets were a maze of twists and turns, pavement, then gravel- beautiful homes were right next to dumps. I think the community planner was high or something!

One gorgeous house I looked at had a neighbor two houses down that looked like a used car/concrete statue lot. Sigh. I figure future resale value might be compromised.
Thanks, however, for the info!

Your are right....I've heard that one before...

There was no community planner and that's why it is what it is.

We are a diverse community for sure...:coffee:
