Chicken wings - flats or drums?

I thought everyone liked the drums because they're meatier and I was the only weirdo who'd rather have all flats. Imagine my surprise when the guy at the chicken place informed me that I was completely wrong and flats are overwhelmingly more popular.

🤯

So which do you prefer?

I eat the Flats 1st, crispy skin, but I love both

Hot and Spicy Sauce Nuclear or at least stage 3

I buy ' whole ' wings at America's Best Wings and cut them up ...
I save 25% and they are 30% bigger then the birds used for singles

so I get 20 whole wings for $ 46 and 50 are $ 155

30 are $ 40
50 are $ 65

Flats. And I disagree that the drums have more meat - but it hugely depends on the wings. Years ago, the cafeteria at my work used to sell wings that I swear must’ve come from an ostrich. Not once since have I seen such meaty wings.

Flats - I usually hear them called riblets - have very thin bones. Without those, it’s practically a boneless nugget.

I’m not the only person I know that pops the whole flat in my mouth and pulls out the bones.

I want the whole wing, and I always preferred the wing, even when they weren't popular.

Got a question - where do you buy good uncooked chicken wings?

Last couple times I’ve bought frozen bags - and they’re small. Worse, when I thaw them out - sometimes the bones are broken. They’re just - inferior.

I can usually find good ones at Bradford's.

I get the pre-packaged wings from BJs, 3-4 in a sealed bag, just take what you need. They aren't huge, but not tiny either.

For really good, flavorful, crispy, huge wings, already cooked, get them from the Chinese take out. Serious.

I prefer flats and there are restaurants/bars in NY where you can order flats only; though they cost more.
Last night, we made them at home for the first time. I had bought a frozen bag at Weis and we pulled out 12 to thaw. Baked them at 450 for 50 minutes. As per the recipe, we dried them and coated them with baking powder, garlic and salt. The baking powder made the skin extra crunchy. After baking, mine were covered with buffalo sauce and hubby's was parmesan/garlic.
We both enjoyed them.

I used to prefer the drum, but since learning how to remove the bones properly, the flats are my choice.

See? And who knew? The gas station wings have super meaty drums with a big chunk of breast meat on them...and still people prefer the flats.

So good news! I'm normal and mainstream for a change! :diva:

Flats

We bought a big bag of Party Wings from Bradfords when they first opened. Not the best wings by any stretch. We switched to Purdue. Much better. We buy a pack of the whole 3 pc wings and cut them up, throw away the tips. Air fry with olive oil, salt & pepper. This way. wife and I can use whatever sauce we want, which is usually 2 different types.
