I am a new mom to a baby boy! I had a bad experience with a child care provider, and after much talk with my husband, opted to obtain my Maryland State Child Care License to do child care from my home. :howdy: I have been advertising for 4 weeks and have had no luck getting any children.. Does anyone suggest anything???

We'd probably be able to help get the word out better (word of mouth is the best advertisement) if you told us your rates/ages/etc...

I have 1 opening for an infant under the age of 2 and 3 opening for 2-12 years. I am zoned for Mitchell Elem and Somers Middle. I can transport if needed in LaPlata. I am available to do before and after care school care. If a parent was willing to work with a schedule I could even do drop in or part time care if needed. I am trying to keep my rates reasonable so $85/week for before and after care, full time infant $200/week, full time toddlers $150/week. That will include breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks! Thanks!

You are probably right! It just seems like when I was getting my license everyone needed care and now that I have it no one does! Thanks for the reply!

Why the face?

You are charging to much. Since you are just starting out and are starting fresh you shouldnt be charging the going rateyou should be charging less. Believe me I have 4 boys in daycare and if i saw ads for at home day care and one was some one who has been doing this for some time and the other had just started and they were the same rate I'd go w/ experience. :yay:

If the going rate in your area is $85 if I were you I would charge $65-70 JMO

Good luck:howdy:

The sad thing is that is about 45.00 cheaper than the going rate from the research I have done! Just to ask a question would you honestly come to the newbie because the price was lower or go to the experience...Be honest because I would say you would go to the experience!

My daughter is in before/after care and I pay a lot less than $85/week. Maybe I'm just spoiled with my rate, but I just thought your cost was a little high.

Well that is helpful, which is what I was looking for!!! Does her care include meals, snacks...what about when school is closed! This is what I need to know from people who take their kids to daycare! Please give me your input it is very helpful!

It depends in the long run how much cheaper it would be? I just recently switched day cares a fewe months ago (to a newly licensed lady) her rates for birth - 2 is a little higher than others(200) but her before and after care is $65 (20 less than my previous) plus i get a $10 sibling discount rate for each kid so I ended up saving 70 dollars a week... almost 300 a month. It was worth it too me to give her a shot. Now I use that extra money for fun stuff w/ my boys.:yay:

Are you registered with the resource center?
Are you a member of the charles county childcare association?
Wife (accredited provider in St. Mary's) has advertised on SoMD before and gotten a number of calls.
Flyers at the grocery store?
Flyers at the post office?
Have you contacted other proveders in your area to let them know you have openings in case they don't and have somebody looking?

I see that does make sense! Sibling discounts are something I would definently do because it benefits all parties involved! Thanks for your honesty!

I think getting the sibling discount is a plus. And $65 does seem reasonable for before and after care.
