Hi everyone,

I need to have my chimneys cleaned. Any recommendations on someone to do this job? Also, any idea on an approximate cost per chimney?

Thank you!

We use Chesapeake Chimney Sweeps. Thanks for the reminder. I need to call them. We are overdue on a cleaning. We have chimney swifts that nest in our chimneys every year which is a hazard. I have been remiss. As far as cost, I did a lot of consumer shopping before I chose them. I can't find our last bill, but I know they are competitive. They are also a hoot! It is a father and son. Last time I called them, their outgoing message was the Chimchiminey song from Mary Poppins! Here is their website.

One more thing. I love to here the twittering of the little baby birds in our chimneys, but I know that the building of nests in chimneys is not a good thing. :frown:

At least a couple of forumites have used them and have recommended them here. They are located in Calvert County but service the entire southern Maryland region.

Prices depend on the type of chimney, and whether it's a fireplace, wood stove, wood stove insert, etc.

Chesapeake was booked until mid-late december when I called them about 2 weeks ago

A step in time, don't waste your time, waited 4 hours for them to show, no one came, called and they couldn't find the person that was supposed
to come... then tried to reschedule... was like you're joking right? You waste 4 hours of our day and want to come back w/o a apology or offer to come back for a discounted price?
F*** YOU!!

Yeah, this time of year is the beginning of busy season, especially with the cold weather setting in. It's always a good idea to book ahead of when you need it. :yay:

We have a wood burning stove; have used Chesapeake Chimney and have been happy with them. When we first bought this house, they installed a new insert as well as cleaning. Mark also educated us on *how* to build a proper fire and how to burn wood; since it was new to both my husband and me.
Since we do not have issues with birds nesting, we had them clean the chimney this past spring. I imagine they are booked solid this time of the year. I do not recall what the cost was to clean but any amount is worth it to me to be safe! Listening to the scanner, there are a lot of chimney fires in the area.

How much are you all paying to get a chimney cleaned? Is it like $50? $100? $500??

Chesapeake Chimney Sweeps (Neal Crandall) is who I use and would highly recommend over any others by a mile or two charges $150 for a two story house. It's a bit less for one story and a bit more for a three.

It usually takes about an hour and includes an inspection of the flue, smoke shelf, damper, exterior, etc.

I meant to, but when you have two kids under 3 running around, they take priority and I forget lol

Yeah, he is fair and EXACTLY what I would expect in a chimney sweep, rough around the edges with a twinkle in his eye....
We had him out to do the cleaning and inspection for the sale of our house after the home inspector indicated deteriorated flue tiles in both the wood burner and the gas furnace. Neal literally could have charged me anything and I would have paid it and he knew it. Instead he said the wood burner needed to be relined but the gas flue was fine. I got a second estimate, mostly for the buyer, and Neal was about 1/3 less expensive and he was using a larger diameter pipe.

He and his family are good people and we plan to use him for future cleanings at the new place

 Yes, youngins' will keep you busy! Don't blink because they will be grown before you know it.

I, also, want to say that Chesapeake Chimney Sweeps moved our fireplace stove from the living room down to the basement fireplace without much more cost. We live in a 40 year old house, so that insert had seen its day and was ugly. They are awesome. Also, the pricing I have seen posted seems like what I remembered. Stay warm, y'all!

One more thing. What is awesome about the fireplace stove we have is that there is a fold out insert on top. So, if things got really bad, we can boil water and cook on it. I am glad we still have it; just in case.
