I agree with you that there is plenty of oil. But the larger point is that drilling it won’t make the US any more “energy independent” for reasons I’ve already mentioned.

There is enough oil to last at least through my great grandchildren’s lifetimes, likely much longer. But it’s going to get more and more expensive to extract and refine.
From what I have read years ago there is enough oil for your grand children and beyond in the Baken Valley out west I think that is what it is called

Exactly. There isn’t a lack of oil, there is a lack of oil that is affordable to refine. Technology is catching up but it will be a long chase. I have no moral issues drilling for and using oil. The issues are economic - it doesn’t make much sense as it will have near-zero effect on gasoline prices and making the US “energy independent” is just an empty phrase people repeat because that’s what their handlers have told them to repeat.
