I know there is a Mamatutu joke in there somewhere. CHS seniors, what a hoot. I wonder if this is going on their permanent record.

A senior prank in which 72,000 ladybugs were released in a public high school has several youths and adults facing criminal charges.
The St. Mary’s County’s Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that early on May 20, five men forced open a door at Chopticon High School in Morganza, Maryland.
Deputies say the suspects, who were wearing masks and hoodies, released about 72,000 ladybugs throughout the school. Police say two others waited in a car.

Investigators say four male juveniles and three men were identified as suspects. One suspect ordered the ladybugs from the internet, deputies say.

The four youths have been charged with burglary, property destruction and disruption of school activities.

School's out for summer

Stupid? Sounds funny and completely harmless.

And I thought I saw somewhere that there is a known unlocked door at that school - if so, trespassing at best. And hold the idiot school responsible for not securing their doors. They are lucky the kids (and the community in general) are so honest.

seems a little over the top to press charges
Yeah, compared to other crimes being committed daily in this county what they did seems harmless. But then there is the fact that they physically broke into the school causing property damage to do so. How can anybody expect the school administration to ignore this fact? So it's okay to do so because "it's funny" should override the fact that they chose to commit a B&E?

Had they chose to release the bug without having to break in and damage property to do so than there would be no criminal charges to bring.

The official charges say they forced their way in damaging property in the process.

from personal experience, "officials" often talk a lot of crap and I wonder, if that is true, why do some think there is a known unlocked door?

eh, either way, let the poor clever children right their true wrongs and carry on - turning this into a tragedy is more about hot tempers and hurt pride - tell adults to pull the corncobs and take a chill...

72,000 ladybugs is not harmless. Now the county is going to have to purchase at least 1000 birds to come in and eat the ladybugs. Then they'll have to get 500 cats to come in and eat the birds. Then 250 dogs to chase out the cats. Not to mention the mess all those insects and animals will make.

This is not a harmless prank.

If there was a known unlocked or unsecured door at the school, and school officials were aware of it, then THAT is a serious issue. This was just a prank, but it may be bringing a more important issue to light.

Went to catholic school, every time you screwed up you cleaned something. Make them pay for the repair/replacement of the damaged door and then make them clean the boy's and girl's locker room/showers/toilets from top to bottom and inside out. When done those toilet seats better salute like in "No time for Sergeants". If this happens by the start of the school year then all is gone.

They should hold up their diplomas until they scour the school with shop vac's and suck up all the bugs, count them all placing them in bug friendly packaging 1,000 each. they have to keep at it until all 72,000 are accounted for.
