The pastor should have took one look at the Bible and should have remained silent.
One the other hand, we should be offering God our best we have to offer. When you have better clothes than jeans, you should put them on. Going to church isnt about us, and what we want, and what we need, and what we like. The center of our faith shouldnt be us, its to be God.
Its all about God!
"You know you have a healthy church when folks leave and ask God if he liked the service!" (Johnny Mac)
If our thoughts are on how very little we can do, and get away with it than its time to examine yourself.
If you were going out on a date you would try to look your best, Why does God deserve any less?
(1 Sam 16:7 KJV) But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
What message are you sending others when you go in shorts sandalls and a T Shirt and look like you just woke up on a beach somewhere?
So what message are you sending?
It's really scary that people can believe and preach unwaveringly about something they don't even understand =(
Obviously you didnt read what I wrote. I was addressing those that have clothes, but are more interested in wearing their jeans because thats what they want to do.It does cost money to dress noce. Are you saying that a poor person shouldn't be allowed to attend church? Are you gonna take that person shopping so they appear nice to your standards?

god made us naked.
I seriously doubt he gives a toss about anyones cloths.
edit: also, Marie, that bible passage you quoted completely refutes your point ....
God cares if you are wearing jeans? I have never seen him kick anyone out of church for coming in jeans. Perhaps more people would attend church if people with your views would broaden your horizons and quit being close minded
The pastor should have took one look at the Bible and should have remained silent. (Refering to the Cowboy)
I dont know where your getting closed minded, are you there for God, to worship him. Or is it all about your comfort and what you want?
If you read my post I said give God your best. If your best is jeans thats fine!
Context my dear, the point was man dosent see the heart, as God does, man judges by what he see's. Dont expect a stranger that wants to talk to someone about salvation or something troubling them to aproach the surfer looking dude. They will no doubt look for someone who looks they are there to attend church.
I know how it was orignally used, but I was using it to make a point
How fitting is "Today's Truth"
Today's Truth
"The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward
appearance but the LROD looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7 NIV
Does LROD have any relation to AROD?

It was a Typo, sorry!
me too, the church we go to everyone is wearing jeans. Some of the elders are a little more dressed.
But I like being comfortable when I hear God's word
The church I attend has a little bit of everything where clothing is concerned. I was always raised to wear dresses as a little girl but switched to pants when I started teaching kids. (I tend to sit on the floor a lot and it just makes it easier.) My praise and worship is still the same regardless of what I have on.
I think that sums it up.James 2:1-13
1My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism.
2For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes,
3and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, "You sit here in a good place," and you say to the poor man, "You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,"
4have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?
5Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
6But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court?
7Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?
8If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF," you are doing well.
9But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
11For He who said, "DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY," also said, "DO NOT COMMIT MURDER." Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
12So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.
13For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.
