Question - Unless we close everything at once, make people all stay home at the same time, won't the spread of this virus continue to 'plague' us?

Every closure or cancellation lessens the chance of exposure, but there is still a chance. Total isolation of everyone and everything for weeks is just not viable.

It's not about preventing people from going out, it's stopping large gatherings, aka "Social distancing".

The Bishop for the Episcopal Diocese of Washington has closed all church facilities for the next two weeks.

There is lots of confusion over this in Maryland. The Episcopal Diocese of Washington ONLY covers DC and 4 counties in Maryland: PG, Montgomery, Charles, and St. Mary's.

The Episcopal Diocese of Maryland covers Calvert and the counties of Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Harford, Howard, and Washington, in addition to the independent city of Baltimore. They have not issued the same closing mandate and have opted instead to modify their services. The Diocese of Easton covers the counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and have made no announcements on the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Archdiocese of Washington has cancelled masses starting on Saturday

when have we as Catholics ever been concerned about spreading illness?! Sign of peace. Communion. Drinking from the Chalice. Veneration of the cross. Blessing of the throats. Kissing the dead during a funeral. But now we are concerned about the coronas.
