I feel the same way about the material wealth of the Vatican.
Thomas Aquinas, surnamed the angelical doctor, who was highly esteemed by Pope Innocent IV., going one day into the pope's chamber, where they were reckoning large sums of money, the pope, addressing himself to Aquinas, said: "You see that the Church is no longer in an age in which she can say, Silver and gold have I none?" "It is true, holy father," replied the angelical doctor, "nor can she now say to the lame man, Rise up and walk!"
(Adam Clarke 1831)
What gets lost when people get caught up in the "material wealth of the RCC" is what the RCC does with alot of that money. Colleges/universities, hospitals, crisis pregnancy centers, schools, seminaries, convents, food banks, mortgages on parish churches. To the uninformed (not directing this at you Zguy) whose answer is for the Vatican to sell off its artwork, empty its bank accounts all for the poor--I say the poor will always be poor. If people think organizations throwing out large sums of money to poor nations works, I would like to recommend reading the next budget that Congress passess.
